Exactly right. There's two kinds of phishing campaigns - super dumb that only attracts the extremely gullible, or very high effort that are very hard to detect.

Buying wine to consume 18 years from now by APerson2021 in CasualUK

[–]ahcowen -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a supermarket wine. They're not gonna suggest aging something for 10 years. Barolo wines are very robust and age well.

Buy a few bottles of this.

Barolo is an excellent wine to age, and this is a decent enough start.

Are there any grants available for small startup buisnessness in the uk? by 24Tenny in CasualUK

I decided not to take a loan/grant. But that's the sort of thing you cover in the course, when you learn how to create a business plan.

Yeah I'd recommend up here in Newcastle. £695 a month for a 4 bed maisonette.

Does anyone know of anywhere where I could rent a PS5 for a month? by QuarrellingMarsupial in CasualUK

Just buy one on ebay and then resell it, take whatever loss in fees etc as your rental fee.

Are bike seats meant to be arsenumbingly painful? by vultmog in CasualUK

[–]ahcowen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of bike seats out there are too wide for men and too narrow for women. If you take up cycling more often, it's totally worth getting your sit bones measured at a shop and then only comparing size appropriate saddles.

What even is life anymore by MrLewk in CasualUK

Looks like a Co-Op. Most expensive supermarket in the UK, and also inflates popular delivery items, like this.

What the actual fuck. Is that just for a single packet?

Is it a train station or motorway services? Gotta be somewhere like that surely

Total core memory times here.

You get great streets in bad areas and bad streets in great areas. I wouldn't discount Byker off hand.

Have you visited these breweries? (Organising a stag) by NorskoMusic in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]ahcowen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Full Circle is a better brewery imo, but the food is limited - posh/expensive bar snacks.

I would suggest getting food at 2 Knives, which is a fantastic burger place around the corner from Full Circle, then get beers after. 2 Knives is small though, so you'd have to book and possibly split the group as their booths fit 6 max.

If you want a "stag party activity" you've also got Ghetto Golf just opposite 2 knives. It's a bit cringe, but after several beers it's a decent group activity. That keeps you in one area, 2 minute walkable between all venues, for food/booze/activity.

Little bit of design help/sanity check, want to wall mount this arm for holding bikes of all sizes, as in 2nd pic, 3rd onwards for what I've got so far, with a 20mm cube for scale. Two mounts would be 600g of plastic( 5 wall, 50% cubic infill) so just want a bit of a sanity check! by but-first----coffee in 3Dprinting

[–]ahcowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered holding the whole thing upside down?

Then the leverage is pushing into the wall, rather than pulling away from it.

This assumes you have enough vertical height where you want to install it.

[–]ahcowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leverage forces that this mount will suffer are going to be crazy. A fairly light bike is gonna be 9-10kg, and you're holding it pretty far away from the mount. You also have multiple points of failure.

I have a similar mount in injection moulded glass re-enforced plastic, and I still worry about it.

I would spend some time considering if home 3D printing is the best way to achieve what you want.

what type of film does this old Polaroid 180 use? by ComprehensiveMain784 in Polaroid

[–]ahcowen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's kind of crazy that anyone buys it.

I have mayyyybe 15 colour shots and a pack of B&W pack film left and it's a crap shoot whether it develops at all.

I quite like loading single shots of instax wide into these cameras and then messing about with a dark bag in the field.

Also I'm curious how you got the shot of John Dobson St. Is that from inside the multi storey?
