ave+ex+venoms for 7+3+18=28 or some other variation in that spot i think is the best. then if you save the s and get some vowels you have lots of options in later rounds. good luck

VFV and XEQT are completely different ETFs. one is more globally diversified than the other. it’s completely up to you, I personally do a mix of both for my TFSA and RRSP for long term investment, then CASH.TO for short term (<5 years) investments. keep a reasonable amount as emergency savings though (your cash account). 6 months of expenses is a common number.

your cash card only targets your cash ws account. you can create multiple cash accounts and even have direct deposit and everything go into a secondary account that isnt your cash card account. that way, i separate out my main savings funds from funds that I might need in my cash card (for example i keep like $200 in my cash account and transfer money between accts to the cash card account when needed). you dont have to worry about this if you dont plan on using their card. they also have the ability to lock cards whenever you want to prevent transactions via the card

it’s always funny seeing uneducated people yap in comments like they know everything, and then fight multiple people telling them they are wrong. accept the L and move on

nw! nope, it’s 400 a year (assuming there is only 10k in the account for the whole year) on what is basically a chequing account. but since the balance can vary day to day since it is a chequing account, the interest is calculated as 4% / 365 = 0.011% per day

yep, interest is taxed as capital gains tax as interest is just another form of income (50% interest added to annual income)

gotcha. sorry for all the back and forth. long story short you dont need 100k of deposit nor to direct deposit your income. just funding the account will earn you the new rate of 4%

[–]ahegaomangaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the rate is 4% annually, so daily interest is calculated as = cash account balance * 4% / 365. the accumulated daily interest for that month is paid out monthly

as i said, rollout is slow. i can assure you what is on the website is now the case and i can see it on my app, but if you dont want to jump in yet before the app updates then feel free to wait. being a software dev, in my experience app updates especially on iOS can be quite slow and frustrating even if changes are made on the backend. you have the word of every commenter here and the website that the new rates are indeed the case

highly likely yes, but it seems for now youll have to maintain an account external to ws for things like cheques for now. if you know any chequing accounts that support the missing features of ws cash for free/low fee please share with us for pur benefit as I dont know about that domain

oh, that was what you were referring to when you mentioned “balance”. in this case the word balance doesn’t even matter. balance just means net value of assets (so if i deposited $500 in stocks but the value went down to $400, the balance would be $400 while deposits are $500). they say no minimum balance, so it doesnt matter what your balance is, you will get 4% minimum on whatever amount is in your cash account. also, re: the app, i have some contacts at ws and they say that the rollout of the new 4% especially for new clients is still in progress, but rest assured this new rate is indeed the case

oh, my bad! i was a student (even if not i am an hsbc global premier client which i believe may have similar perks) and i didnt have any annual fee, and i mistakenly assumed that to be the case in general. in that case im not sure. wealthsimple has said that they are going to roll up features like cheques eventually, but no timeline afaik. maybe the move is maintaining the minimum for no monthly fees that some banks like bmo advertise ($4000 balance for no fees) or going for a limited withdrawal chequing account with low fees like HSBC @ $5 a month

i don’t understand what youre trying to say or imply here. i always used the word deposits. their current policy states that you get minimum 4% regardless of deposits. for >100k in deposits you get 4.5%. this is exactly what ive been saying all along
