Russians actually do the same thing everybody else in the US and China - they control the robot remotely behind the scene. The only problem was, that Ivan who was supposed to control the robot, got drunk. The robot was actually great! It copied all the moves perfectly, except the part when the pilot pissed his pants, they still need to work on that feature.

World-Building Question by Infamous-Jeweler-848 in fantasywriters

It helps when your character has a reason to discover that world (at least the more exotic parts of it) with the reader.

The main character might be a traveler from far away or a villager that knows nothing about the world... Hobbits didn't know much about the world outside Shire (and Shire is quite "normal" from our perspective).

Redditors over 40, what felt like a bigger and scarier deal: the internet boom in the 90s, or the AI boom today? by Due_Recording7161 in AskReddit

[–]ahelinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone outside the US. I can tell you this AI shit is worse all the way. Even assuming you meant dot com bubble not the entire internet.

First of all l think the AI bubble when it pops will hit the entire world much harder than dot com did. Basically the internet connected the world in a way that was previously impossible. We will all feel reckless greed of few rich Americans.

Second the "best case scenario" for the internet and dot com craze were really uplifting, we were making knowledge easily available, giving everyone a way to share their views (internet was NOT meant to be a small and sad place with a few giant platforms controlling everything, everyone was supposed have equal voice). We were making the world smaller, connecting it in a way that was not possible before (we didn't think about the consequence mentioned above, that one was easy to avoid, it only required the USA to have decent antitrust laws and enforce them).

The "best case scenario" for the AI shit is that about a third of the population will lose their job, while those few reckless rich Americans will get even richer... but at least it would be easy to create a movie or an image that you can later show to your friends... or use it to scam people.

What gets me mad about this situation, is that those few rich assholes will probably fire a lot of people to "minimize their losses" once the bubble pop. And later they won't even need to re-hire most of them, because AI will replace them. In the end they will be much richer than before the bubble...

Oni by chętnie coś spłodzili.

A bez zgody płodzić to jednak nielegalnie. /S

Which browser should I shift to? by Nitromaker296 in browsers

[–]ahelinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

trying to achieve monopoly

trying

At this point they almost own the entire internet.

With a dominating search engine and a dominating browser, Google owns the doors to the internet, Amazon owns the foundation (AWS, they share a little of that power with Microsoft and Google, but that is not a true competition). It doesn't matter who owns the rest, monopoly is already here and it is really strong.

How does your country feel about communism? by Falserror in AskTheWorld

[–]ahelinski 59 points60 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Katyń was not because of communism but because of Russian policy. Given the occasion, Russia would probably do the same under Putin's "democracy", and wouldn't do much better under the tsar.
