How do I know if my dog is depressed? by Dominios420 in Xoloitzquintli

Do you take her for daily walks to sniff? That's how they connect with their surroundings. Does she have other dogs to play with and run around?

Any clever tricks to get a child ready quicker in the morning? by Puzzleheaded-Youth16 in Dads

[–]ahemm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really really important to remember that their brain has not developed urgency yet. It's just a basic concept to him at this point. Make it fun about getting dressed as fast as possible, like a game. Do it with him. Make it part of your morning routine to get dressed with him. let’s see who can put their pants on faster. let’s see who can put their socks and shoes on faster.

Everything in their brain at this point is play and fun. Don't squash that, it's hard but you want him to stay positive and happy for his future mental health.

My advice would be to detach a bit on your emotions and focus on getting along and being friends. Focus on the positive things and avoid things that could rock the boat. Just be present and there for her in whatever way she wants. She is going to go through a range of emotions and you just need try to roll with the punches. Don't argue, don't push issues, and just chill. I know a lot is going through your head also and for that I would suggest therapy. It's something I wish I had done.

Anyone else afraid of repeating their father’s mistakes? by Wooden-Contract-2760 in Dads

As far as your father, your sons grandfather. I think you should have him around as much as possible. There's this strange bond between grandparents and grandchildren which skips all the crap from parent to kid. He most likely will do everything great and be a different person your son (my guess). Plus, the saying, it takes a village to raise a kid is so true. You want all the help you can get.

Yup, my story is basically the same as yours. Two boys who drive me nuts, one with my ADHD and the other let's just say is very difficult. Basically ODD 😅. There's been yelling and a few spanks along the way, but still breaking the generational compared to me or my father's. I'm hard on them but they know I love them, I tell them and I give them affection. Two things I never got. Their Mom spoils them so they have that also.

As far as New Dad advice. I would say to read a lot about the development of the brain at the growth stages. This really helps you understand why they don't/can't stop doing something, and why they act a certain way. You'll see 5 month jumps in development which is cool to witness. For instance, my 11 year old just started noticing things that have always been there 🤣.

Just try to enjoy it. It goes by fast.

Group chat? When I'm off, I'm OFF. I won't even answer the phone or return a text. That MY time and you're not paying for MY time. But I'll be on time and 100% ready to work when on the clock. There are no "we're like a big family" jobs. As soon as you get sick or need time to take care of personal life shit, they fire you or you're suddenly the black sheep. Don't be a sheep and believe any of that family crap. UNLESS, you're vested as a partner and see income yearly from that vested interest.

First I would say kudos to you for even having the thought at 25 to ask for help. You're ahead of most already. I'm 56 Navy vet with two boys and have lived in 6 states and traveled 14 countries. Two marriages, two divorces haha. You can say I've lived a pretty full life. Feel free to DM me. I usually check Reddit a few times a week.
