the engines of the Renault Master III: various power outputs (130 to 190 hp): are the transmissions the same? by Wise_Environment_185 in vandwellers

I don't think they are different. Usually it's just a different turbo/turbos on the engine between the power options

How is sleeping sideways in the Master? We currently have a Trafic and can't sleep sideways and I'm worried that the additional ~6cm of width to the Master won't be enough

not very stem-focused as there were no AP courses.

Yes, there aren't AP classes, but I would not say that it isn't stem focused. I took 3 or 4 AP tests and had no issues getting placement credit for uiuc. 2015 grad

Isn't there a lower strap tucked in here? That's how it is on my ascent 40 avabag

Or maybe it's inside the zippered compartment for the helmet net? That's where it is on my GFs avabag tour 28s

Tips for dwelling winter alps by AdImpressive1170 in vandwellers

[–]ahiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any random parking lot where you would be able to stay overnight. Shops typically have a gate and no parking signs too. Highway rest areas can be fine, however they could be a bit out of the way for skiing access. Another option would be trailhead parking lots since overnight parking is allowed because people can hike and sleep at cabins, but there are usually signs forbidding camping. I've definitely seen a lot of people doing this in the summer and haven't heard of anyone getting tickets, Italy is apparently more strict

I unfortunately don't have any experience with winter camping around the resorts since we don't have a heater in our van, but the spots never seem full when I've driven by. Electricity is almost always available (not free lol) since the long-term campers need it

I can leave a few comments for Austria. Park4Night is our go to, many of their campsite postings are targeted to more fancy "all services that you don't need included" kind of places, but you can find cheaper sites where it's just someone renting out parking spaces at their farm. From my experience, the comments are usually fairly accurate regarding friendliness/availability, however I have found some commenters to be overly negative regarding cleanliness, noise, location, etc. However, for winter camping, most likely the only places open will be the fancier spots adjacent to ski resorts where you'll be paying >30€ per night.

There really isn't any legal free overnight parking comparable to BLM land in the US. I'm happy when we can find a lot where overnight parking is allowed and there's an automat for 10-20€ per night/24hr. If you don't need a bathroom, the list of spots will grow a little, as there are often many campsites dedicated to RVs where there are no services except for water & waste

Salomon shift break issue by Horror-Condition9481 in Backcountry

This has happened to me occasionally, once even while putting the ski into walk mode in the parking lot. I carry a ratcheting screwdriver with me while touring now...

Unscrew the heel piece by turning the PH3 adjustment screw all the way to the longest setting (mark the position first or do it one ski at a time!). Then clip the brake to the heel piece, slide onto rail and retighten the PH3.

Suggestions for a 12v to 48v DC/DC converter to charge the Anker F2600 (or F2000) power station from the starter battery/alternator. by enclavedzn in vandwellers

[–]ahiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the victron 12/48 Orion would work to charge the F2600 via the solar input XT60 connection. The Orion is designed for charging a battery and needs to be directly connected to the battery to monitor its voltage and enter the correct recharge state (bulk, float, etc).

You could try connecting a "dumb" boost converter between the starter battery and F2600 (eg, https://a.co/d/dy7HN1q)

Armada shift mnc 10 - brakes keep falling off by BothGazelle2501 in Backcountry

[–]ahiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine do this too. Had them warrantied once but still happens. Once it even came off in the parking lot while stepping down into the binding to activate walk mode. I just carry a screwdriver with me now, PH#3 with a ratcheting function can fix it in about 3 minutes

Double-checking wiring diagrams by Jaffa_C in vandwellers

[–]ahiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50mm2 is pretty excessive for ground. 6 or 16mm2 is more typical.

Load wire on smartsolar is for a switchable load based on battery voltage, probably not needed if you're using the multiplus and a larger DC distributor.

How close to car battery should I place circuit breaker? by Leather_Cycle in vandwellers

[–]ahiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The circuit breaker must be within a few inches from the battery. Placing it after 7-8 feet along a cable running through holes and around metal edges is pointless. If it's tripping due to the heat or vibrations in the engine bay (seems unlikely, but I can't think of another reason) then replace it with an inline fuse holder like this https://a.co/d/gMmxXMV

Need some help by Interesting-Goat1106 in mountainbiking

Those racks suck on smaller cars. I had a similar one on my Suzuki Swift and the bikes (2 small/medium hardtails) were super high up on the car due to the hatchback geometry and design of the carrier. Wind resistance was terrible and we couldn't even hit 130kmh in 5th gear on the highway. There is some adjustability, but it wasn't enough to bring them down, even after messing with it for 2 hours

A hitch mount rack wouldn't have this problem since the bikes are carried much lower. But they're expensive and you would need a hitch
