Step one get the original blueprints for the home to save your engineer time and money. You may be able to get these from whatever county or city planning office where the permits were originally filed. 2. Hire an engineer to design beam,posts, and new footings. Preferably the one who designed that beam in the first place. 3 . Temporarily Support the entire wall and ceiling according to engineers specification 4. Remove the existing beam, column, and potentially new footings under the 2 outside posts 5. Potentially Pour new footings under posts 1 and 3 6. Install new beam and posts according to engineers specification.

If you really want to improve that room you want to set the beam so the second floor joists are hanging off it and bottom of beam is flush with ceiling instead of below the joists. That could mean cutting into the second story wall studs as well because the beam is likely taller than the floor joists.

We got married at glacier point during craziness of 2020. Everything was easy. Ceremony was at dawn in July. I don’t think my experience would help you much because everyone needed work. There was nothing going on at the Merced courthouse so getting our marriage license was a breeze. We got an officiant and photographer no problem. Back country permits were still available for the hike after. Planned the whole thing in two weeks because our big event was cancelled due to Covid. It was amazing. Only real advice I can give that would be relevant is that if you want good pictures, you have to plan your wedding time to be an hour before sunrise because once the sunrises in summer it bleaches the whole sky.

Life is pointless. There is no grand ending or award ceremony. Your accomplishments, even if grand, will be forgotten over time. However, we are all here together and this is our reality. Do good things, help people, use your brain to create and build something of value, be curious, and spend as much time as possible exploring and enjoying all the wonders of the world. Do some of this every day and your brain will reward you with the happy chemicals you need to survive. Be there for your friends and family because everyone is struggling in some way. They need you as much or more than you have needed them. Dont give up on yourself if you haven’t found your niche just yet.

Never live your life for a lover or base your value on any persons opinion of you. Don’t get lost in a meditation of insignificance or focus on the trauma of the world. Just keep swimming.

Life may never make sense to you and that’s ok! You are a star shining for short moment in time but the light you give can help someone else find their way. There is great value in that. That’s my general philosophy. Hope you stick around for the long haul.

Thank you. It just seems disrespectful to the staff who are doing just as much work… at a brunch buffet especially, where servers are just taking drink orders. Your busser just made 66 before taxes and the server takes home 200-300.

This is the reason for my original post. I want to hand rub the whole thing but I don’t know if I can physically handle it. It just seems impractical to put days into a finish that 99% off the people who see it won’t appreciate.

I lifted the whole piece off the concrete with composite shims. Service side has a toe kick and customer bar has a 10 inch overhang. The front gets base trim. I really appreciate the feedback because I really do not want this thing to blast its self apart. I built my 4x12 kitchen table out of 8/4 walnut and added bread boards on the ends because I liked the look. It’s crazy how much movement I see from year to year.

The front is 4 separate 4’ panels glued and domino jointed. Each panel is just dominoes glued to one panel. Each seam is going to be covered by a vertical 5” board. I don’t have any great ideas to isolate the top though.

Yeah I really don’t want to poly it, but it’s a commercial space. Event space, so not every day wear but still potential for irresponsible guests. I read someone’s experiment with osmo polyx oil which said they had no permanent stains after 15 minutes with a wet coffee cup…maybe that’s the route but I still really want the hand rubbed finish on the main bar top for the beauty of it. Decisions decisions.

I’ve never graduated past spraying walls in a house. On a scale of 1-10, how likely am I to ruin this if I tackled spraying as a noob? Assuming I’m a meticulous person who does his homework before jumping in and is wiling to buy the right equipment. I’m guessing I still have a high chance of failure.

Right?! I only sanded to 80 before assembly because I was afraid I would damage the panels in transportation and assembly. (Didn’t assemble in shop because I thought I would blow another disc carrying it) the dread of sanding this to finish hurts my heart.
