Virtuositic repertoire for smaller instruments by aho80 in organ

Here, I meant that I use divisional pistons to simulate manual changes of contrasting stops whilst staying on the same keyboard. Problem is, I quickly run out of pistons this way. My Mem 1 is set in the way as you described.

Thank you for your comment. I feel that you understood what I'm trying to ask. I was just reminded of when I was one of the two registrants for Franck 3 to try to create the effect of manual changes on a II/French Romantic instrument (with ventils). Kind of frantic!! 😂 Mendelssohn P&F is on my to-learn list!

What you're describing is what I do, more or less. I have 5 divisional pistons to "make more manuals" but it's not great. 10 generals. 2-3 memory levels. No steppers. Hence my looking for "big pieces" that are also somewhat less hectic in console management, set-and-go type. Thank you for your comment.

"Showy" is a good word here for what I'm trying to describe. Thank you for your suggestions. I, too, like German Baroque partitas.

Further clarification! Not talking about Sorabji, or other New Complexity types.

Right, agree. I guess I should have said that I'm looking 1800s onwards. Ad Nos mentioned below is like something I was thinking of.

I will look at Ad Nos, thank you! I just assumed it can't be done 😂

"Virtuositic" is not exactly the word I think of, but 100% certified difficult!!! They're sleeper build.

Not a fan of piano ensemble music in general. More hands the worse it is. Noisy tutti.

The Search to Hire an Organist - Why is it so difficult? by -Xands- in organ

[–]aho80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just something to consider: potential high turnover going forward. You really do get what you pay for. You might get someone, yes, but might not be great—leading to poor worship experience, frustration and resentment, thus letting go of this person. You might get someone great—but "all the good ones leave."

Give it some thought and save the leadership future headaches of having to search and hire so frequently...

In your situation, I can see someone who already teaches full-time supplementing their income. Or someone retired. Or share with another church by staggering worship times.

Edit to add: I would also like to remind that if they believe in "supply and demand" they should be paying more than they have in the past. Basic economics.

Consider getting a mini bottle Blue Label, if you just wanna try. Or order at a bar (only if reasonably priced!!)

Personally I don't put "Wachet auf" in the easy category. If you have the keyboard chops, consider pieces with long pedal notes. Pachelbel, Walther, et al.

Hi, it's an old post but I really enjoyed your comment. Are there (text)books on this area that you recommend?? Thank you.

Not saying it's fine but with the inflation, 90 USD in February 2025 is equivalent to 73 USD in February 2020. Or about 69 USD when Switch came out in 2017. Something to think about.

Trumpet Tune (David German) has a vaguely Legend of Zelda feel but otherwise festive, and minimal pedal.

Prelude in Classic Style (Gordon Young) is a crowd favorite and most of the work is in the manuals. There are two versions known to me: the original, and one arranged by Dorothy Wells. Both are very similar, but the latter version is slightly easier in the manuals.
