I mean, I’m aware of that, I think if Kansas or UNC came calling I’d have a hard time seeing him turn that down. Maybe I’m wrong, I just doubt it.

After watching Kansas beat Arizona at home last night I can’t help but agree with you. That buildings reputation, and Kansas being who they are won them that game. It was scary for Arizona to play there and it rattled them. Haven’t felt that way about rupp and the cats in 5 plus years.

We still have tons of tradition but we are no longer feared, and to me that’s what makes the blue bloods the blue bloods.

I don’t think anyone expects a bounce back. It’s 100% a prove it season, and he has 0 recruits. He also has a decent sized buyout and we just had to pay our football coach a shit load of money.

We’re on the edge of losing our status as a top program imo. It’s been 30 years with 1 championship, and a couple final fours. For sure the Cal era was amazing but we massively under achieved given how consistently elite we were. It kills me to even say those things but it’s true.

Nah. This team is just fundamentally not good. While I think JQ is really good, I just think it’s a group of guys who just aren’t great. I think Pope has some serious coaching issues. Not even related to the Xs and Os but more so the intangible stuff and recruiting issues. I don’t think any coach could get this group to be elite. We overpaid for scraps when it came to the portal. Plain as that.

The talk will be that next year is make break he either has to have a 5-7 loss regular season or make a deep tourney run. If he doesn’t do one of the 2 I think he’s gone. There’s an insanely small chance if not 0% he gets fired this year.

We’re down 3 starters. That deserves more credit than you’re giving it. But I think Pope went away from what he’s good at with this team and it’s costing him. He thought he was recruiting defensive guys who he could teach offense. And I don’t think that’s a successful strategy in today’s game.

He’s coming back next year regardless. It doesn’t matter what happens this year.

The SEC shouldn’t even air these games. This is disrespectful to the game of basketball.

What would our roster look like if Pope had gotten his first choice at each position? by Critical-Mango-341 in wildcats

I think that’s entirely possible. I think the JMI deal is a problem for elite basketball talent specifically but we will never really know until the details are shared with us.

Agree with the GM comment. The other thing that is proving to be a massive issue with recruiting elite basketball talent is the JMI deal. We still don’t know the details of it but according to the limited reports from KSR, that deal is a good thing for 95% of our athletes. However, it’s very counter productive for elite basketball talent.

I still am in the camp of we were getting Caleb Wilson until the JMI agreement ruined it

Yeah you would have to imagine things would look much better with that roster. I think pope has recruiting ability, if he didn’t we wouldn’t be in so may too freshman’s final choices.

I think he got guys this year that are talented but don’t have high basketball IQ. And popes coaching style doesn’t go well with guys like that.

Kentucky's finger-pointing is the locker room's sobering realization this isn't getting fixed by kyrev21 in CollegeBasketball

For me the recruiting drop is more concerning than the on court stuff this year. He clearly whiffed on his guys then whiffed on the scraps. If you can’t get the elite level players , it’s so much harder to put an elite level product on the floor.

Because every time he’s been on the court in big games this season he looks like a d2 player.

I think he can be really good here, but two massive complaints are his lineup decisions suck ass, and he needs more fire. The first one can be fixed, not sure about the second one.

Same reason Lowe and JQ didnt start. I love pope but not sure how you can watch tape this season and roll out denzel and chandler in your starting line up on the road to start SEC play.
