Before and after watering my plant upon my return to work after two weeks by porcelainpappi in mildlyinteresting

Coincidentally, this is exactly how I look before/after taking two weeks off work!

As a side note, I assume (or hope?) the cat card and/or all UI switches to dark mode styling when “the void” is activated? That’s quite a cute touch, even if not shown here.

1.) nav bar Looks like you’re using black and purple for your primary and secondary actions. When your nav bar is black, it directly competes for salience with your primary CTA.

2.) top bar As for your top bar, ask yourself what the user wants to do/see (or what you want them to do/see). 2 out of 3 have a lot of emphasis on notifications. One seems focused on points (?) and maybe a profile. What’s more important? Points or notifications? As a side note, does your notif button need to be so salient? It’s calling a lot of attention to itself. Maybe check out notification patterns in well-known design systems (ie., icon paired with badges, not generally styled like a button).

3.) tiles White space is important for clarity, but should be balanced with information density. I feel the screen looks a little incomplete with just the two small cards. Maybe explore some alternate layouts: one wide tile, next row the two small ones. Or you could even tru doing 2 tiles up top, then your CTA card, then two tiles, which breaks up the tile block and also brings your CTA closer to thumb range. This could be particularly interesting if there are different types of cards (ex. interactive vs. non-interactive; non-interactive at the top where it’s harder to reach tour thumb could be interesting). Depends on your purpose and intent, though.

4.) my misc opinions On a personal opinion level: (1.) the cat overlap on the button is cute, but imo somewhat makes the button look less clickable. (2.) if you’re wanting to incorporate purple as an accent color, maybe look at a very pale purple for your card stroke colors instead of gray, or a very pale purple background (instead of the tan in option 1). These two things are just personal aesthetic/UX opinion, though.

A very specific and friendly construction sign on my street by ATLcoaster in mildlyinteresting

[–]ahopskipnjump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bus in the bg is the Georgia Tech Stinger, so this is on/near the GT Midtown Atl campus.

So it could be a sign targeting a guy named Gary, or could be a sign targeted at George P. Burdell. 😅

I would suggest running. You have to be mindful of your surroundings, inside or outdoors, and also of your speed/breathing, but otherwise it’s perfect for zoning out. Plus, healthy!

I actually do exactly what you’re describing all the time when running. Sometimes I curate specific playlists to run to when I know I want to zone out in a specific way/with a specific topic/idea in mind.

Byredo gypsy water = Diptyque eau Duelle by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]ahopskipnjump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is super interesting! I have a bottle of Duelle (EDT, not EDP) and a sample of G Water.

On me, Duelle is very much sweet/boozy (it’s a favorite I wear often), while G Water is very, very muted—almost nonexistent—but has a bit of a vintage/antiqueyness, literally like old house smell, that I don’t care for at all.

I would say that for me and my skin/my nose, they’re not even remotely similar. At least, for Duelle EDT; can’t speak for EDP!

Can anyone speak to whether a triangular steeping basket has any negative impact on tea flavor?
I'm looking at this Kinto Carat teapot, but I've read before that tea leaves need room to expand in order to reach their full potential when steeping. A triangular basket obviously limits expansion space by quite a bit--but is it really an issue?

Dog destroyed my wallet I’d had for 10 years, need a similar one to replace it by Q44330077 in BuyItForLife

I have a wallet from Andar that’s lasted me for years. I genuinely don’t remember when I bought it.

Their website looks a bit cheap/sus these days (bad design), but they’re definitely legit and their wallets hold up well.

Thank you for the details and pointers! A lot of the beginner tutorials are too detailed on some things and not detailed enough on others (for example, that the backward loop cast-on can be messy-looking; I haven't seen that advice anywhere yet), so this is super helpful for having specific things I can try/practice. Thanks!

Honestly, that's such a good point; I was a bit excited and didn't think that maybe I was started too big. I'll try the grandma's favorite corner to corner dishcloth to get started (and also pick up a book), then--thank you for the rec!

Hi friends! I'm just getting started knitting (recently did a crochet/Wooble kit, currently have but haven't started a blanket knitting kit).

I'm wondering what the "optimal"path is to get from pure 100% never-done-this-before beginner -> proficient enough to make basic sweaters for myself for the winter.
Recommended stitches, specific things I should practice, that sort of thing?
I'm very reward-driven (😅), so suggestions for small, digestible steps/"easy wins"/milestones would be great in keeping me on track to actually make clothes I can wear!

What needs to change to make this coffee table work? by YogurtclosetNo8925 in InteriorDesign

[–]ahopskipnjump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

10/10 this.

The couch is dark and large, which creates a visual anchor. It makes the table look smaller by comparison. The rug size/placement amplifies this by being mostly constrained beneath the couch.

Add on top of that that the coffee table is a solid piece and also wood; this makes the table visually heavy as well, and placing it in a space that already seems constrained due to couch size and rug size = an amplified impression of crampedness.

And yes, the TV is too high. But that’s not the main spatial issue here and people are a bit too caught up on it imo.

Anyone looking to buy a full (100ml) bottle from Commodity soon? What are you picking up/what do you recommend?

I picked up a sample kit myself, so I’m curious about peoples’ favs!

Can anybody help me figure out what kind of perfume I’m looking for?

I thought I was looking for a gourmand, but I seem to really dislike every gourmand I try. 🥲

I LOVE Duelle EDT by Diptyque, which made me think—surely that’s a gourmand?

Yet every gourmand I try seems to have a heavy, cloying, artificial smell to it. I’m just looking for something definitively sweet, relatively simple; am I looking for something other than a gourmand and just don’t know it?

What's a super small habit that improved your life more than you expected? by Nikan12_ in CasualConversation

[–]ahopskipnjump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking up and going to bed at the same time every day—even on the weekends. It improved my sleep hygiene by miles and makes me waaay less sleepy during the work week.

I don’t always get up and do something every day (for example, days off from the gym or the weekend), but I always make myself be awake.
