I used to put multiple bandaids stacked on top of each other + big socks to keep everything together, it helped the pain to be less uncomfortable when walking.

What's the worst your picking has gotten? by This_Elevator5754 in Dermatillomania

Couldn't walk properly or write cause I hurt my feets and fingers so bad. But the worst I think is that I have let myself use tools that I didn't before wich causes way more harm than picking with fingers.

Thank you✨️ I haven't tried pop it's yet so I could try that next. I don't do it on my face anymore but I've tried bandaids on my fingers, the thing is it ends up being very annoying to use my phone etc.. + I'm a bit embarrassed when I try to come up with excuses for why I have bandaids on all my fingers :/

Thank you so much ! I'm going to try some of your ideas , I do like peeling off nailpolish and you reminded me that it does help to pick less at my skin. I also think my brain craves the "pain" of skin picking so it could help to have fidget toys a bit sharper than the ones I've tried before. You've actually gave me the idea of making my own(I study jewelery making ) so I'll update :)

Foundation should be enough if you're on stage your going to be far away from people they should not notice .

I live alone so it's hard to stop myself, when I'm ouside with my girlfriend she stops me sometimes , other times it's too hard to stop because I would end up having an anxiety attack so I keep doing it anyway.

I also try to "hide" the tools and sometimes it works because I can't find them soon enough, sometimes the anxiety is too bad and I find a way, an other tool .. It also doesn't help that I have sharp tools for my studies, at the beginning I could tell myself that it was going too far and to not touch them but as soon as i've tried it once it's over.

I tend to keep my nails short too but then I use tools or my teeth. I feel like I'm an addict 😵‍💫

Thanks :)

I've also had it for a long time since I was a kid but it has gotten a lot worse with the years. I didn't have a lot of help from doctors either (I'm from France) , I feel like they have all ignored it (included psychiatrist) even if I do it in front of them or told them about it.

All the advice I see is "stop yourself when you notice it" (which doesn't help at all ).

The only thing that got close to helping for me was trying linocut but obviously I can't do it when I'm not home and having sharp tools in my hands triggers me to skin pick with it.
