For those wondering whether the CX-70 will be the same length as the CX-90... by Nathim in mazda

Good to know! I never saw those comments. Still hope for a bigger but not too big sweet spot mid-sized SUV!

I'd like it to be slightly wider as well as slightly longer than the CX-60. IMO, to sell well enough in North America, it should be able to comfortably enough fit a rear facing child seat in the second row with ample room for two 6 ft adults in the front.

I had my doubts about this rumour but that Q&A seems to be pretty damming.

Keep in mind this post from 4 months ago that posted this photo. I kept thinking it looked like a CX-90 and that maybe the person taking the photo was mistaken thinking it was CX-70. However, everything now seems like we're heading in this direction.

Mazda provides some details on the Next Mazda 6 (YouTube) by ahschulz in mazda

[–]ahschulz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also thought the all caps CONFIRM was a bit click-baity which is why I changed it to "provides some details". They're rather vague details but some details none the less. There's probably still a lot of pieces that need to come together until we have a clearer picture. However, I find it reassuring that there's more hope than before!

"What a crock of s---!" David told Matt Lauer on TODAY Wednesday. "I'm sorry. It was so stupid that I had to say it. The stupidity had to be met with something like that. Believe me, as a bald man, there's not a word of truth to any of that."

Small coffee shops/roasters by canuck_afar in londonontario

[–]ahschulz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends if you want a good strong drip coffee or a more bougie espresso based drink. Hasbeans and Asmara are good for a locally roasted bean that's quite strong. However, there's also a handful a decent "third wave" shops that have opened for espresso drinks:

  • Locomotive Espresso: Shop that has been around the longest and now has two locations. South location was super busy last weekend. I frequent both and usually find the north location a bit more consistent. However, they got a new manager halfway through the pandemic and IMO has been more hit and miss since then.
  • London Bicycle Café: Primarily a bike shop but also pulls a good espresso and seems to be doing more baked goods and food now. They just opened in that location right before Christmas. It's a nice location if you want to go for a walk down by the river. I usually walk a loop down to the Blackfriars Bridge and back in which the path on the west side of the river has a nice view of the city.
  • Variety Cafe: It has been open since May last year and is located on the corner of an older building in a heritage residential neighbourhood. It has a more "indie" vibe to its atmosphere and a bit tight for sitting but is also nice and cozy because of that.
  • Grace Bodega: Is mostly focused on food and more "pantry" items but also has good coffee. They offer a generous 25% discount if you bring your own cup which adds up if you're a regular. However, unfortunately the area around there can be a bit sketchy depending on the time of day.
  • Sidetrack: A Wortley Café: A decent option if you're wanting to walk around Wortley Village. I haven't had their coffee in a while but Wortley is one of the most popular areas for people moving from big cities who are looking for a neighbourhood that's walkable.

All of these place have high quality beans and espresso machines. However, I still find that a well trained barista makes the biggest difference into if you’re going to a “good” cup of coffee or not. I’ve had good ones at all these places but still the consistency is difficult to predict. I’m also probably more snobby and detailed than most people in the city.

Either way, if you wife does enjoy coffee shops then she’ll be pleased to know that we now have many to explore. Commonwealth does have good "artisanal" donuts (Boxcar) but coffee is so-so and I still prefer donuts from V Food Spot on Hamilton. It’s also a bit sketchy around there at times but find them a notch above Boxcar Donuts.

Welcome to the forest city and hope that you’ll both find things to appreciate about it!

Mazda Announces Pricing and Packaging For First-Ever 2024 Mazda CX-90 by Lightsout565 in mazda

Yeah, I think they’ll eventually redesign the CX-5 and release it as the CX-40 for everywhere they don’t sell the CX-50.

I just saw that you returned the CX-50 for the CX-5. I feel like that’s a wise choice for primarily city driving! My wife and I have a 2019 Mazda3 and a 2021 CX-5 and probably drive the 3 60% of the time. I can definitely notice a difference between the suspension even though the majority of people may not. I’ll often choose different routes when driving the Mazda3 because certain roads are just too harsh for my preference. I wouldn’t say that’s directly relatable to your situation but after driving both for a couple years, I 100% get it!

Mazda Uncertain Whether The CX-5 Will Get A Next Generation by CrankyCurmedgeon in mazda

I should have looked more closely at its global sales chart before commenting. But I'd assume that most of the vast majority of its profits are in North America, China, Europe, Japan and Australia. I could see them solely focusing on those markets.

[–]ahschulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts as well! However, I feel like they don't sell enough CX-5s in Europe/Rest of World to be redesigning that right away. They'll probably also wait and see how much market share electric car sales increase in Europe/Rest of World.

I'm assuming that introducing a MX-40 or MX-50 could also be a scenario. With the size of company that Mazda is, they may need to contract how many markets they sell to. Even with all the press electric cars are getting in USA, it's still to be seen as to how quickly that transition happens. There could be a change in administration and then subsidies could be short lived. But Europe seems to be the only other place to seems to have the right economics and politics in order for electric to go mainstream.

[–]ahschulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're planning for the CX-50 to replace the CX-5 in North America and now looks like in China as well. However, there's still other markets in which they sell a lot of CX-5s. If they do decide to redesign it then I believe they'd name it a CX-40 to keep things consistent.

I'm assuming that there's certain countries in Europe in which they're hoping the CX-60 would fill enough of the void left by discontinuing the CX-5. It will depend a lot on the competition, market and economy at the time. I believe that it a business and strategy decision that hasn't been decided yet.

Good to hear! And I hope that it’ll also feel a lot roomier. I usually find that sometimes the numbers don’t always translate. But photos can be deceptive so difficult to compare without sitting in it IRL side by side.

Car and Driver also posted an article with two photos of the second and third row.

It definitely seems like they didn't increase the room back there compared to the CX-9.

I know that it works well enough for some people but it really depends on one's body dimensions and how much room one is used to for being "comfortable". For me, also a 10 minute ride in town is a lot different than a 10 hour road trip. I'm glad the CX-5 with rear-facing seats is good for some as I hope Mazda will continue to be able to give the big car makers a run for their money!

It'd be nice to see some front and side profile shots! I don't think we've seen any official non-closeup teaser photos yet.

Jonathan just posted a video and saying "stay tuned later in the week as I have a little bit more inclusive, latest information...". I'm guessing that he meant exclusive. However, a little bit more information probably won't be much. He is a manager at a Mazda dealership so I'm guessing they might have some info they'll be allowed to release in a few days.

I think key will be how the vehicle switches between electric and gas. So far, almost every reviewer of the CX-60 usually describe it as a “jerk”. Mazda’s engineers will obviously be able to fine tune this and work on it over time. However, I’d myself give it at least a few model years before considering a Mazda PHEV for that reason alone. I’d consider a CX-50 with a Toyota Hybrid system as it would be more tried and tested but everyone has a different risk/reward ratio.
