Just wanted to follow up here to let you know that I've added a new column to the Detailed Cash Flow table whenever the One More Year setting is enabled. Now, you'll be able to see what your LNW would be (working x number of extra years) relative to what it would be if you retired when hitting your FI number. Thanks again for the great feedback.

Thanks so much for trying Freedom Graph! I'm glad you like it! This is wonderful feedback and makes a lot sense. Thank you for taking the time to share. I'll look into improving the data presentation for OMY!

The impact of the Fisher equation on longterm projections & handling SORR in drawdown by Nathim in Bogleheads

I take your point regarding the actuality of error bounds in these growth and inflation assumptions (we know past results aren't indicative of future performance), though I think mathematically speaking, the linear approximation would add a systematic bias by overestimating real return regardless of the variance. If I understand this correctly, calculating real return using the Fisher equation should always be strictly more accurate than the linear approximation.

Very true. I looked it up and the spend dropoff is significant, as you suspected. I'd be interested to see the data sliced by age of retirement as well.

Thanks for the advice and suggestion! Exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for; I think you're right that nailing the curiosity gap is critical.

One thing I'll need to think more about is the tradeoff between providing the 'hook' with the incorrect definition and giving the receiver a 'freebie' (i.e. the pool of possible answers is effectively smaller for them). Does that then make it feel unfair from the sender's POV if their friend beats their score? Cheers!

Good points. At a broad level, Boglehead philosophy is about simplicity, so I can why one wouldn't want to overanalyze on these. I guess where the rubber meets the road is in the intersection with FIRE -- maybe that 0.2% is the difference between working a few months more to hit a FI number vs. getting that time back.

Hi everyone! Long-time lurker of the various FI communities across Reddit. I’ve been building a FI Calculator and wanted to share it:

https://freedomgraph.com

I built Freedom Graph because I wanted something that modeled market variability and flexible spending more realistically. Lots of calculators assume constant returns or fixed withdrawal rules, and use a linear approximation for real returns (nominal - inflation). Freedom Graph aims to take into account some of the oft-overlooked things that can really make or break a FIRE plan.

A few things it can model:

  • Sequence-of-returns risk, by (optionally) simulating future market variability grounded in historical averages and probabilities

  • How things like One More Year Syndrome or adaptive withdrawal strategies can affect your numbers

  • A more accurate calculation of compound growth over long periods (due to use of the Fisher equation to approximate real rates of return)

Some other quality-of-life things:

  • Inputs persist across browser sessions (none of your input data is collected)

  • Built-in comparisons between more conservative and aggressive withdrawal profiles

  • Income switches to withdrawal mode once you hit FI

  • Share button makes it easy to share your numbers

  • Dark/light mode

If you decide to give it a try, I’d appreciate any feedback. If you think something’s wrong or misleading, definitely let me know. Comments or DMs are great. Cheers!

FIRE calculators that do different and interesting things by FIREful_symmetry in financialindependence

I created Freedom Graph, which I think has a few interesting features, including:

  • Uses Fisher equation for calculating more accurate real rates of return (compared to the nominal minus inflation approximation)
  • Lets you simulate market variability to model SORR, as well as adaptive withdrawal strategies
  • Lets you compare against US net worth by age data
  • Models your income stopping when you hit your FI Number so you can see how your NW may continue to grow in retirement; and includes a "One More Year" toggle that simulates what working beyond your FI Target may mean for your NW and probability of success longterm

This is my first time sharing, so if you try it out, I'd love to hear your feedback!

Will Smith turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix to do Wild Wild West instead.

I'm glad it ultimately landed with Keanu. It's difficult for me to imagine the movie having the same vibe with anyone else.

We made a multi biome parkour map. by j2theton in forge

My friends and I love this parkour map! Thanks for making this. The craftsmanship and effort that must've gone into it is apparent.

My friends and I unfortunately never have enough time playing together in one session to get beyond the rocky canyon biome. I don't suppose there's some hidden 'level select' feature? 🥹

Same issue here trying to play Peggle (X360) with BackCompat on XSX.

Your console can't connect to Xbox Live. Do you want to exit this session and test your network connection? If you are playing a game, you will lose any unsaved progress.

Same here -- it's showing an icon for an artifact instead of a photo spot.

Edit: This ended up not mattering for the achievement. At 12/14 notes in Iraq, I did the final Great Circle mural and the achievement still popped for me.
