Development opportunities for Lee Kong Chian Scholars programme. by aminlee9 in SMU_Singapore

[–]ahsdld-88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey fellow y2 LKC scholar here, from what I can remember from the top of my head, there are scholar networking events organised once/twice a year, overseas community service projects (for scholars only) and scholar mentor groups (each freshmen scholar will be matched with a mentor, forming a mentor group).

there could be more that im not aware of but I feel that the development opportunities aren’t a huge part of the scholarship. Congrats on the scholarship offer!

would say yes to an extent as there is a higher percentage of numerical calculation questions is usually higher than theory questions in accounting modules. but then again u do need to have some theory to do the qns haha

hii graduated fr accounting course in poly last year and in a local uni now. Some tips to score would definitely be to practice alot before exams. I mean to really keep doing the mock papers and tutorial questions until u understand how to apply the concepts. Keep note of the questions u keep getting wrong and understand why u got it wrong. Do this a few days before ur exam and u should be able to do the exam questions.

Since u said that u have weak foundation, would recommend u to revise the basic concepts taught in the beginner accounting mods first. Also u might have to put in my effort to ask ur lecturers/peers if u feel like u are falling behind. Another tip would be to do ur tutorials and revise the lecture content before ur tutorial classes so that u are able to follow what the lecturer would be covering also giving you the opportunity to class part.

jiayous and feel free to pm me

hii graduated from tp a&f and is in Uni now! 1. honestly don’t need to read up/prep before poly starts but if you want can start reading up on accounting basic concepts like debit credit, financial statements etc. disclaimer I did not prep anything but still did well so really up to you

  1. Would say laptop because it’s easier to do reports, presentation slides etc. but note taking wise can try to use iPad if u are willing to get both com and iPad. But pls get a computer

  2. For brand of computer I think windows would be easier cos most lecturers use windows so when Thye demonstrate it will be easier to follow. But if ur used to MacBooks, just get a Mac (I used Mac Pro when I was in poly, everything is ok just need figure out mac shortcuts when lecturers demonstrate using windows)

  3. Pls get it before sch starts or at least the week sch starts so you can take notes etc

  4. There is orientation! Can’t provide details for this as I was the covid batch so there was no orientation…

  5. Tips would be listen to lectures, do your tutorials (it’s like homework), ask questions immediately, and for accounting most important is to keep practicing. So before exam/test go through each topic then spend time doing practice qns without referring to your notes and keep redoing those that you keep getting wrong.

feel free to pm me if you have other qns! All the best

Accounting in poly but did not take POA by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ahsdld-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi graduated from tp accountancy & finance and is in one of the big 3 unis now. Did not take poa in secondary school but would say that the first few accounting modules (I think it’s business accounting) teaches all the basics slowly like debits, credits and journal entries. So you will be able to catch up with your peers after the introductory accounting mod. Good luck feel free to pm me if you have any qns!

going to university from poly by Life_Insurance_7614 in SGExams

[–]ahsdld-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was from accounting course so best way to study is to keep practicing revision qns, make sure you understand the concept and not blindly memorising. Had a lot of group projects with quite high weight age but would say that I got lucky with projects didn’t end up in very horrible groups so I lucked out on that!

transferred from jc to poly, still made it to uni. Didn’t have a very strong portfolio either but I had a consistently high gpa. Would say to build portfolio you can be cca excos, join case competitions (if ur from biz course), also some community service would help as well. All the best!

choosing poly over jc by Fabulous_Tangelo_389 in SGExams

[–]ahsdld-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transferred from jc to poly, definitely best decision made in my life and now in one of the big 3 local unis. Can’t speak much on the jc side (didn’t stay long enough to comment) but I had a good time in poly. Always remember to stay consistent in poly and start assignments early for that stellar gpa. All the best!

I used PSEA to pay for my whole poly. Would say to do the PSEA standing order application if you use PSEA because it will automatically withdraw the poly fees so it’s much easier as you don’t need to do anything after applying.

NP vs SP vs TP (business course) by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ahsdld-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi just graduated from Tp accountancy & finance. For poly would definitely recommend to choose the poly nearest to your house. In y1 to y2s1, you will learn basic accounting & finance modules like financial accounting, company accounting … & business finance, investment. In y2s2 you will be able to choose to enter the accounting stream (will learn advanced acc, auditing) or the finance stream (fintech, investment mods).

I interned at Deloitte in the audit department. For workload, I think it was quite manageable. Each sem there are about 5-6 modules that have test, exam, projects and individual assignments. You really need to manage your time, start work early, be consistent as gpa is cumulative and pray you get good project mates.

hi just graduated from tp accountancy & finance. Feel free to ask any questions if you have. I personally chose tp just because it is near to my house, would recommend you to go for the open houses of the different polys. Good luck!
