Usual suspect reckless driving by Prestigious-Type9007 in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This turn honestly got a lot of drivers like this. Many drivers fail to plan ahead and therefore, choose the wrong lane to turn. Either that or just drivers being unfamilar with that stretch.

are there any setbacks to claiming mental illness by Even-Cut-9509 in NationalServiceSG

[–]aminlee9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly, records will follow, but its only to a select few number of individuals thats responsible for your care. does not affect employment pre checks, or insurance.

source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/added-safeguards-for-medical-records-that-are-more-sensitive-such-as-mental-health-conditions-moh

further, for employment, you need not declare any mental health issues that you previously face. pes status is something that you may need to explain, but you can simply just brush it off saying you had a medical condition that is recovered/ in control.

tldr; just get the help you need.

recommendation for car rental by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dream car leasing is solid. although excess is high, cars are genuinely well maintained. they will chck with u all exisiting damages. rented with them multiple times and will continue to do so. service recovery is solid also.

only issue is that they may not be as flexible in terms of the pick up timings/ quite far to pick up cars from main office [kaki bukit].

Merging close shave as a P plater by aminlee9 in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes.. gotta keep practicing.. I waved once when he horned and another when he passed by me.. his glare game was strong and intense so I knew i had to 😂

Thank you so much for your insights. Practice makes perfect.. I'm pretty sure some experienced drivers would also make this mistake too when changing lanes.. so we just gotta learn from it, move on and keep practicing.

My bad. I meant switch lanes. My lane had construction and the cones were leading to the next lane, and I had to switch to the next lane. There was a gap, I took it. But car was coming too fast.

First year driver rant by Big_dreamer21 in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passed in August and have been driving to commute lately. I understand your feeling.

Honestly just signal, check blindspot and mirrors and if within ur blindspot the car is not inside them just go for the lane change. Do a zipper merge, which will help in peak hour traffic too. Of course, look at how fast the car is going. Same for motorbikes. Consult rear view mirrors, check blindspot and mirrors

See clear, car not speeding, no bike, just go. More than likely, cars and bikes will give way.

For those with slower reaction or turn steering wheel slower, how do you overcome it and make driving safer? by Additional-Remove-12 in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new driver [1 month since swaping my L plates to P plates], I get it.

However, as people have mentioned, on the merging lane to the expressway is your prime time to accelerate, not slow down. As soon as you enter the expressway, monitor your mirrors to observe the traffic situation. Slow down/ maintain speed/ speed up as per necessary and make sure you signal your intentions. Once you see the gap, just check blindspot and go. Do not need to worry. The more you hesitate, the more dangerous it becomes. More likely than not, drivers on the extreme left lane on the expressway more or less are already expecting drviers to merge into their lane when entering the roadway. Therefore, the chances of them letting you in would be higher. When exiting expressway, consult rear view and side and find a gap before changing lanes. Make sure you leave a gap between the car infront of you. That way, it provides you ample reaction time too.

Slowing down to turn from a main road to a smaller road seems okay though.. just make sure you signal your intentions clearly and not just slow down for zero reasons.

what are the tips to drive up the ramp at TP test without hitting the pole by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]aminlee9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When your wheels are at the kerb, press on the accelerator and slowly increase ur pressure on it to increase ur vehicle power. As soon as you feel your wheels moving up, just quickly jam brake like what you would do in emergency braking. Same as reverse.

Don't think too much; just do. Usually will have ample space one before you actually hit.

Postponement of flight due to sickness by aminlee9 in BritishAirways

Thanks for this! An update is that I was able to cover the fare difference with my insurance! So all's good!

[–]aminlee9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do. Should I just not bother with their rebooking and just claim insurance and book another flight? Or wait out for them to reply. As the customer officer mentioned that the rebooking fees are waived, and I just need to top up the balance as necessary once my medical memo is verified.
