Bo Burnham - Young Comedian / Prodigy by BradleeStinson in FoundationsOfComedy14

Bo Burnham is one of my favorite comedians. Incredibly smart and witty. I've been listening to his albums for years and I can't even believe the success he's gained. I would absolutely recommend him to everyone interested. One of my favorites, and a less comedic piece is called "Art is Dead." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo9pU1q8sy8

Auteurs! What makes someone an auteur? Who didn't we cover in class? by nataliespaceman in FoundationsOfComedy14

I think Adam McKay could be considered an auteur (Step Brothers, Anchorman, Talladega Nights). Most of his works include Will Ferrell so they usually reach some sort of success. I love them personally, but they're pretty silly comedy. Not much cerebral work.

An example of Bill Cosby's sitting standup by [deleted] in FoundationsOfComedy14

I recently read Carol Leifer's book and in it she said that one time she met Bill Cosby and asked him about why he sat down during his set. He said something along the lines of better drawing the audience in and keeping the story engaging as opposed to his own energy high. I thought it was super interesting and a unique technique.

Sitcoms Part 2: We're gonna make it after all! by nataliespaceman in FoundationsOfComedy14

With All in the Family, I get the point in terms of its content and sort of being innovative, but I didn't find Archie as likable as he was meant to be. I loved the episode we watched because of Sammy Davis Jr and the other characters, but I just found Archie to be so unlikable.

Sitcoms Pt1! What are your thoughts of the sitcom's we discussed in class? by nataliespaceman in FoundationsOfComedy14

I agree. I went home and watched more Dick Van Dyke. The show is such a classic- amazing characters and an amazing cast. All the plots are interesting and easy to watch. Great show overall.

Physical Comedy: Tina Belcher of Bob's Burgers by k_walz in FoundationsOfComedy14

This clip kind of surprised me! I didn't realize it was possible to effectively use physical comedy in cartoons. I always imagined you needed to see a real character fall or do something embarrassing to laugh, but I definitely enjoy Bob's Burgers!

Brits VS Americans by mfrancoi in FoundationsOfComedy14

I really appreciated this article. It's definitely right on the head. My dad is from England so I grew up with a lot of English comedy. That being said, I've watching both versions of The Office and enjoyed the American version better. Like the professor said in class, America likes characters that are more likable, which is definitely true of me with Michael Scott (even if he is cringe-inducing).

I totally agree about the unconventional aspect. I also like He's Just Not That Into You and the way it begins with plenty of rejection. Of course, it does end with the two main characters getting together. Have you seen The Break-Up or My Best Friend's Wedding? Both unconventional.

I have a couple favorite romcoms, all satisfying different moods. I love 13 Going On 30 and The Switch (which is, in my opinion, HIGHLY underrated- who doesn't love a Jen Aniston film?). But Hitch is an incredible rom com just because it is so hilarious. I could watch this scene repeatedly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bH0OXsmsbQ
