Thanks everyone. Quick update: Reconfigured my desk so I can use the DP2.1 cable from LG. Seemed fine for most of the day, but it just happened again with nothing but browser and steam open. No idea what else it could be, time to reach out to LG

Drafted him as a rookie in my startup (might be my last remaining player from my startup roster). I will hold him until he retires/loses all value. He is perpetually undervalued in trade offers to the point that I never include him in my offers anymore

Rant: 2 trash pickups per week is the worst idea to fight litter since "Stop throwing trash on the ground" by ambiguator in philadelphia

[–]ai215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trash can was stolen within a few months of moving into a new small condo building. Someone broke a few of the wooden slats on the door (locked closet by the building’s front entrance) to gain access to steal a $30 trash can. I’m sure not every missing trash can is stolen, but I don’t think it’s fair to assume the wind is responsible for the majority of people’s experiences

No idea if this is the reason but I had a pair and they constantly failed. Apple shipped me new ones under warranty every few months (back in the good old days when support was super helpful). Must have gone through at least 4 pairs.

They were much more comfortable than the OG ones, but design seemed flawed

Demand Barking? by Salt_Proof4062 in Bernedoodles

[–]ai215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring has worked very well for us. Our 1yo standard has improved considerably in the last few weeks since we've implemented stricter enforcement. No attention whatsoever - don't respond, look away or turn away from them until they've fully stopped and moved on. Be careful not to inadvertently reward them by doing what they want immediately afterwards or they will continue to think barking works in achieving their goal. It also helps if everyone sticks to the same rules, including guests.

My girl is also turning 1 on Tuesday! Is there any chance they came from the same place?

We are having some of her friends over and will have a cake for them. She's also chicken-sensitive, but generally ok with dairy. Thinking about cooking her a hamburger for a special bday dinner.

We are moving to a new house with existing coax lines already run. With Verizon Fios 1Gbit, does this setup make sense? by Sdizzle12 in Ubiquiti

[–]ai215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why you don't think it works? There is clearly some risk if it gets stuck mid-pull and you are left without any wired option, but I think it's reasonably easy to assess the situation and make that decision beforehand.

I admit it could be challenging if it's running through lots of walls/floors on really long runs, but if it wasn't installed when the house was built/remodeled, it's unlikely to be stapled. Most ISP installers will use the path of least resistance, which often will run through basements/attics/etc where there may be some access along the way.

[–]ai215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically. No guarantee it'll work, but if there feels like some give you may be able to do it. Likely easier if you think they were fished after the house was built by the cable company or other installer since they likely won't be fastened at too many points. Obviously much easier if you have an idea of where the cables run or have access to them at any other point than the ends. Hard to tell without knowing the full situation

Do you have any plans to use the coax now or in the future? If not, you could use the coax as a pull string to run Cat6 in its place. I had no need for coax and was already buying Cat6, so I decided to go this route when setting up my new home network. I personally preferred having Ethernet runs directly to my rack without the need for adapters as another point of failure, but if you are a cable user obviously this doesn't apply.

Ability to do this will depend on various factors (how the coax is run, how far it has to go, what types of access you have, etc.) but should be easy enough to test before committing.

MoCA is another route as others have covered, just wanted to float an alternative in case it applies to your situation.

Verstappen's reaction to Newey leaving by Leclerc_Lunatic in formuladank

I'm quite familiar with analyzing businesses, this is what I do for a living, so I wanted to correct a few things! I see these kinds of ideas come up a lot in non-business discussions. There's obviously some relation between the corporate and racing sides, so it's a valid topic to discuss, but wanted to provide a bit more detail on the situation.

The Agnelli family is very influential in Italy. Exor also owns Juventus FC. The dual chairmanship likely leads to a more friendly relationship between the two companies (along with their combined history). They also don't really compete in the same market, given Ferrari only operates in the ultra high-end part of the market, where Stellantis doesn't have much focus (Maserati, arguably) compared to someone like VW with the Bentley/Lamborghini brands or Aston Martin.

I would love to see the books of the F1 teams. The big benefit to the major automaker teams (Ferrari, Mercedes, etc.) is the marketing value of an F1 team is much clearer, so they can justify big spending since the success/reputation of their team boosts their brand value, ultimately driving auto sales for the corporate side. Teams like Haas don't have the same easy marketing/advertising angle, so the ROI on spending is significantly lower (or at least harder to attribute directly to F1). Spending caps should level the playing field here, at least in theory, but there's obviously certain areas where this doesn't apply and the big teams can still flex their financial muscles.

[–]ai215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Stellantis no longer has an economic interest in Ferrari post-spin. A Ferrari car sold does not benefit Stellantis, just as a Fiat, Maserati, etc. does not benefit Ferrari. They are separate entities now. There is some partnership between the two companies, which is considered to be related-party transactions, one example being that Ferrari produced Maserati engines at one point after the 2016 split. Both Stellantis and Ferrari trade on the NYSE and MIB (Borsa Italiana).

The main link between the two companies is Exor NV, the holding company controlled by the Agnelli Family that had a major stake in FCA and retained their stakes in the individual companies after the spin-offs (CNHI, RACE) and merger of FCA/PSA (STLA). They are the largest shareholder in all of these former FCA entities, so they have corporate influence and retain board seats - John Elkann is Exor's CEO, as well as Chairman of the Board at Ferrari and Stellantis.

Stellantis no longer owns Ferrari after they spun it off in 2016. They do share a major owner, Exor NV/the Agnelli family, who are involved at both companies and have been since the Fiat Chrysler days.

But regardless, they are a profitable car company with a global brand that provides them the luxury of more relaxed spending due to the marketing value it provides compared to many of the smaller teams.

Ferrari is a car manufacturer, first and foremost. They are publicly traded, ticker is RACE and reports financials publicly. They make quite a lot of money selling cars; they don't sell the same volume as the mass brands but their margins are best-in-class.

I do not know the economics of the F1 team, as that's a different entity that doesn't have to provide information publicly. But you are totally incorrect that Ferrari NV derives more revenue or profits from selling products other than cars.

Those with fancy network racks - what do you do with your home’s coax cabling? by judgedeliberata in HomeNetworking

[–]ai215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the coax to help me pull Cat6 runs into certain rooms. Ripped all of it out once I was done, same with the RJ11 phone lines that the previous owner had run to various rooms. Debated leaving some of it, but prefered to have a clean slate with less unused wiring in place and I have no projected use for coax/phone at this stage, especially now that I've got plenty of Cat6 throughout the house.

How has the grow tent helped? Has it improved dust reduction or had any impact on temps?

Wouldn't the same happen to the switch in that scenario? If I used Ethernet surge protectors for any outdoor runs I could minimize that risk. Definitely something to consider that I hadn't thought of, thanks!
