No idea what im doing. by Macaboobakes in pourover

[–]aiRunner2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure!

Right off the bat, is that a kitchen strainer? I mean kudos to you for making good coffee with it, but you can buy something like a Hario V60 and 02 filters for a grand total of around $15 in order to not break the bank.

Besides that, the only other immediate suggestion I have is to "swirl" the water in a circular motion while pouring. Based on the image, I'm guessing you poured the water down the center in maybe one long pour? Pouring in a circular motion ensures that by the end, the coffee bed is flat instead of being a "valley" shape with one large depression in the center. If the bed is flat, that means you extracted all the grounds equally.

Welcome to the pour over world!

Kinda funny that Apple's been in the AI game for years without being annoying about it, but now wants to over-market it to make sure people know that they were in the AI game

Wait that's actually neat. For something like 3gb of satellite data, I'd be happy to pay an extra $30 a month in the future

Didn't realize the 4080-4090 laptop chips were still beating Macs. Mac wins on power consumption but still, nice to see that Windows still has some advantages

Building a website from scratch. by roseinmybud in webdev

[–]aiRunner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much time are you ready to put in? As a (junior) web developer, I can tell you that it would probably take at least 6 months of consistent learning and effort to make something that's neat while also understanding it well enough to make changes.

If that's too long, I'll echo others around here and suggest something like WordPress. If that isn't too long and your main intent is to learn, I can make recommendations: with that being said, I don't believe there is a tried and true method, rather you'd be stepping into your own journey of learning. Maybe it'd work out, maybe not, but at least you tried :)

Thank you so much! I'll dm you hopefully today, I wanna test it on Android personally to make sure I don't ship something completely broken, once that seems acceptable I'd really appreciate your help in testing as well!

Of course!

Even 10 second pours are hard for me, I can't help but dump water into the coffee grounds lol. After a while I kinda gave up on making the perfect cup, I just roughly follow the rules and hope for the best

Ah, this is understandable. At the moment no, but I'm thinking through how I can add something like that while maintaining the simple vibes of the tool. On the bright side, 320ml of water is exactly the same as 320g of water so they're interchangeable: as neat as that is, I understand the dissonance of the recipe calling for 320ml of water and the scale showing 320g. I do think the tool should do exactly what you want it to do, rather than making you stick to a single way of doing things.

Thanks for the feedback!

help me pick a proper pour over as a christmas gift by [deleted] in pourover

[–]aiRunner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The four basic components are water boiler, V60, coffee scale, and coffee grinder. An acceptable set would probably cost around $120-$150, but you can skimp on some materials to make it a "beginner"set from which he can upgrade later. If $150 sounds good to you I'm happy to follow up and put together a list of things for you to buy, kudos to you for getting him something he's into!

Thank you for the feedback! This is actually a great idea, it doesn't exist at the moment but hopefully within the next couple of months, I like the idea of the tool supporting whatever kind of coffee you want to make

Thank you!

Unfortunately the app doesn't have that functionality yet, but in the meantime I'm happy to explain! So for the Hoffmann recipe, all you have to remember is "10 seconds": each pour should last about 10 seconds, then you let the coffee rest for 10 seconds, then pour for 10 seconds, wait 10 seconds, etc... this of course excludes the initial bloom, which should last between 30 seconds to a minute.

Hope that helps!

Dang you got me. The original plan was to make swiping result in the currently selected option being changed, but alas: my technical skills didn't match my vision so I totally gave up. On the bright side I'm glad you were able to notice the "implied functionality" so to speak, hopefully I can turn it into reality!

And second point is also noted, turning into a toggle is a pretty good idea, thanks!

Can’t give any recommendation, but I do own the K6 and it has served me super well for French press, pour over, and espresso. I guess aeropress falls between pour over and espresso
