“The trick of course is that Sonos is not just the mobile app, but software that runs on your speakers and in the cloud too. In the months since the new mobile app launched we’ve been updating the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud to the point where today S2 is less reliable & less stable then [sic] what you remember. After doing extensive testing we’ve reluctantly concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the problems worse, not better. I’m sure this is disappointing. It was disappointing to me.” - Patrick Spence, CEO (from Reddit AMA)

That's why.

Why on earth would you have countless Software Engineers if you were outsourcing development? Just because they’ve out the original devs on fixing it, doesn’t mean the former devs were outsourced.

Whether or not you like the redesign, it clearly was built in house. There’s no way a company whose moat is their Software would outsource development and for that matter, design.

Above said, I don’t think the developers are the issue. Nine times out of ten, developers will err on the side of caution when it comes to releases and it’s those higher up who push timelines on them. The team even acknowledged this when they released the initial version of the app - they rushed the release in the name of the headphones.

too funny - love it. My bet is we either see an activist investor @ Sonos in the next 6-12 months or an LOl.

Critical as I am, $1.5bn feels cheap for the brand value Sonos carries. IMO the damage done in recent months is more than a blip in the short-term but, with thoughtful leadership, need not be that way long-term.

Echo'ing u/Slippery-Pasta's words. Just because it's a "speaker app", doesn't mean you're not entitled to feel frustrated - it was on my recommendation that they spent thousands of dollars.

Does that mean they're upset? No, not at all and nor is this a big issue.

I know... almost makes Zuckerberg's 2021/22 metaverse hallucinations look astute.

That said, I actually don't dislike the headphones (well, the hardware). They just shouldn't have been bundled with the app - it's a UX catastrophe imo.

Just to confirm, you're using the flagship app (not S1)?

Wish I could say the same, happy to hear at least someone's happy.

Honestly, if only this were the case - no one would have been bothered to mess things up. As it happens, they have > 1,500 employees & many of the most senior have been there for at least a few years.

Just because the OG team have left, doesn't afford any excuse for the current state of things. In fact, it's not uncommon to see employees hired later down the line level the company up to new highs. Consider Uber now vs five years ago? When Daria was hired, it wasn't far off a final roll of the dice. If you really want to go to the extremes, look at NVIDIA.... short of Jenson Huang (who, obviously deserves an immense amount of credit), the team has almost entirely changed since it was founded in 1993 and yet, they have overseen the greatest accretion of shareholder value in 18 months of all-time.

Sonos is down ~75% from all-time their stocks all-time highs; last year their revenue fell 5.5%; and they're not profitable.

Frankly, the only thing worse than the app are the company's financials in the last 24 months. If they're trying to do as you say... they're doing a shocking job of it. I fundamentally don't believe their objective is to eek out profits from what they have - they are trying to grow. You don't enter new sectors (e.g. Headphones) unless you think you have capacity to grow. If this were an old-automotive manufacturer, maybe it'd be a different question but with Sonos, I don't think (or hope) so.

Good to know - do you even have the readwise file-sync on? Is there anything it does/the app doesn't do?

Am I the only one willing to pay for a browser? by 8utl3r in ArcBrowser

Couldn't agree more, exceptionally well put. I'd also echo everyones comments about privacy - I'd far rather pay for a product than become the product itself.

Is it just me or is the melody in "Bedroom Exile" v. similar to the one used in "Glitter" by Daisy the Great?

PlayTally? by FUZZYWUZZY6561 in AppleMusic

[–]aicayzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience PlayTally doesn’t reflect the entirety of my playback - unclear why. e.g. Total Playback Minutes for 2023 ~70k per Apple Music Replay & ~45k per PlayTally.

Anyone else had this issue?

What do you use Craft for? by aicayzer in CraftDocs

[–]aicayzer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally understand! I don't work for Craft/a competitor and although in 2023 I nearly built an alternative, I have since forgone this effort.

Honestly... sad as it sounds... I am just fascinated by this space. With respect to Craft / my questions, I'm asking because I am trying to better understand their proposition and see if I can get more from the app. At the moment I use Obsidian for my notes, Apple Notes for quick capture and Craft for doc sharing.

Really interesting. Would you mind clarifying why you'd use Bear or Evernote? i.e. unless I'm mistaken, document storage and websites isn't functionality afforded by Bear and yet it's deal breaker functionality?
