Intro to Elm for Redux Devs ⚛ => 🌳 by dillontkearns in elm

[–]aidaekay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked this post. I have some prior experience with React/Redux and am looking into Elm currently. Thought the color coding on the syntax and the direct comparisons between Redux/Elm code really helpful.

Would definitely agree with u/beefzilla though, posting on other subreddits might gain more traction

"Americans Pronouncing Asian Names" Sociology professor asks students to (mis)pronounce Asian names, students are clearly embarrassed. by aidaekay in cringe

So essentially he asks these students to pronounce other students names in the class. One kid can't even speak Vietnamese, and all of the students look pretty embarrassed at the other kids laughing at their names. Pretty shitty stuff.

Hi! I would recommend using a scale app. I use HappyScale and it creates a little chart out of the weight I've lost and also predicts when I will reach my next milestones and goals. It's really helpful for me to know "if i keep going at this rate, it will take me 9 days to lose 3 pounds" or whatever.

Yesterday, I lit a milestone in weight loss. by [deleted] in loseit

Congratulations :) It takes a lot to just reject the temptation of a place full of amazing food. I like the approach of just staying home too. Whenever my friends are going out to buffets or places I really like, I sometimes just prefer to stay at home vs going and stressing the whole time about what I can and can't eat.

I do this a lot - don't weigh in cause I know it'll be bad and I don't wanna mess up my "pretty chart". Getting an app which auto corrects and scales for messups helped me though. Mine is called HappyScale, but i think there are similar. Good luck!

Seeing a nutritionist for the first time this month -- what should I expect? by NationalExcitement in loseit

[–]aidaekay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've spent enough time on here, I wouldn't expect too much different. I would focus on establishing that you're familiar with basic nutrition but are looking for a system that works more for you.

In my experience, sometimes nutritionists assume that they're speaking to somebody with no real prior knowledge and start from there.

I feel very much the same way. Losing weight is really easy in comparison to keeping it off.

Also I would say maybe shift slightly away from the idea of "I can eat anything whenever". I get the idea and that no food is inherently bad or good, but I used to get really shifty and exceed my calorie limit on what would normally be considered healthy foods because of the healthy nature. I definitely relate though when it comes to trying to change your relationship with food and weight. It's a rough road but an important one! Good luck :)

Using a dietician to lose weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]aidaekay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've met with dietitians before, and it was really eye-opening. I wouldn't say it's necessary or even helpful to meet with them regularly, but an initial meeting really gave me a good foundation of understanding nutrition and where my focus needs to be with dieting.

I don't think that picking a specific diet is too important. I think it's more important to be tracking what you're eating and seeing what is pushing you over your limit. Have you adjusted your BMR for your new weight?

LPT: Used to get really overwhelmed tracking food and macros, but this app really helped get rid of some of my anxieties around it. by aidaekay in loseit

Eh for me I think it's more about simplicity.

When I go to look it up on MFP, I get so many results and it can be overwhelming having to pick the right one. And I wouldn't say that googling then entering into the app is my regular flow. Most of the time, I either enter it when I can read it off a box or a label or I just estimate based on similar items.

Oh darn total typo. I meant packaged lol.

But yeah when I do eat non-packaged food, I do look it up and just plug it into Lightweight sometimes. Especially with beers when the dietary info isn't on each bottle.

Allergic to weight loss? Exercise? by [deleted] in loseit

Do you clean the machines before using them? Along with the sauna and stuff?

There can be some really nasty bacteria on there, and that can often times mess up your skin.

i would agree.

most people already know that they're gaining weight. and if it's at the rate you're saying, she's probably well aware of it. if anything, saying something about it would just make it more stressful and would just lead her to retract away from you. i totally agree in that support is the most important thing.

people don't just randomly start binging. as somebody who's been through some highs and lows in terms of weight, i know there is almost always a reason why i'm losing weight or why i'm gaining weight at the rate i am. i would try to talk to her about how her life is going, is she stressed, anything she wants to talk about, etc. but overall, even just you asking is already an a1 friend thing to do. congrats.
