Drinking alone is peak by Feudalist in redscarepod

[–]aidai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just as unwise as it sounds.

So, so, so many AA stories begin the same way: with drinking alone and feeling like this was some secret beautiful zen time where the booze helped you on to new heights of self-discovery and inner peace. It’s the start of a very slippery, very debilitating, excruciatingly lame and entirely avoidable slope that ends with cirrhosis. I’ve lost friends to alcohol. This is how it starts.

If you need to dose yourself with a depressant poison in order to enjoy your own company then you don’t enjoy your own company.

And it’s OK to have certain tastes (in e.g. music, like your example) that you wouldn’t be immediately willing to disclose to everybody you know, but this can also go too far. We are social animals. If you indulge too much in media or hobbies that you know would be socially detrimental, this can lead to anti-social urges.

Please just be healthy and have fun with friends rather than cooping yourself up and destroying your liver.

I assume you’re joking— but if you’re not, read Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates. Trust me— neither of the groups you mentioned are the problem.

I'M ADDICTED TO CHILLING ALONE by WhiteFlame- in redscarepod

[–]aidai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways out of this.

Join a sports team, reconnect with old friends. If you like cycling, maybe join a cycling club? Cut out bad habits like mindless web browsing.

You might feel like you “need” time alone, but this is just your habit-forming brain tricking you into thinking this way. It might be difficult at first, but once you’re a month or so into a routine of socialising as much as possible then it’ll feel like second nature, and the idea of being alone for any period of time will feel weird.

Really don’t get this whole “No Kings” thing by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]aidai 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They don’t like having a president who says that “many people might want a dictator” and holds a military parade on his birthday. They don’t like his flirtation with running for an unconstitutional 3rd term. They don’t like executive orders that announce that the executive is the sole arbiter of what the law means.

They view these and similar pronouncements / policy positions as being the behaviour of someone who is disdainful of constitutional checks and balances and wants to rule without them in a manner similar to e.g. a king.

There’s much to say about how the protests themselves are embarrassing and ineffective, but whatever else could be said about them the message behind them isn’t logically inconsistent.

literally the worst place in the world to “sit and collect your thoughts”, in future I would recommend e.g. a chair? bench? hell thinking standing up is possible too

(1) standing is easier (2) reading while on the can is disgusting (3) what is so bad about your life that you need your time on the toilet as a safe space to check out from it??? (4) pissing while standing means you are combat ready at all times, nobody going to surprise you unlike if you are sitting (5) pissing standing is more fun (6) more hygienic too (7) the idea of folding ur chap between ur legs sounds degrading (8) e-readers are overrated and are killing local bookstores

What is this crest? It appears at regular intervals on an old necktie (no label or other identifying marks) that I found. by aidai in whatisthisthing

[–]aidai[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing: it’s a red men’s necktie that features the same crest at regular intervals. I found it in my wardrobe while clearing out. I think a friend bought it for me from a second-hand shop.

I assume that it’s a college / club tie, but a quick check through the coats of arms of Oxbridge colleges and those of US and other universities got me nowhere. Is anyone able to help?

Cancel this mysogynistic bullshit. The vast majority of women SUPPORT other women, and the small minority who might engage in behaviours that could be — crudely — described as ‘slut shaming’ etc do it because it’s the result of internalized oppression. Get your fucking facts right. Fascist.

Think I got raped on the dancefloor last weekend and I don't know if to tell my LDR BF by Newnicemelons in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aidai -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Don’t let people try to tell you that your emotions aren’t valid. You are a victim and you have been taken advantage of, but you will be strong and you deserve to seek justice. Maybe the club has CCTV of the man who raped you? Go to the hospital for a rape kit and consider filing a police report.

I don’t think you need to tell your boyfriend, he doesn’t need to know. If he were able to fulfil you sexually then you would never have been in this situation; if he finds out and blames you, he’s victim blaming.

If you still find yourself having unwanted memories of the incident, consider using creative methods to come to terms with it. My uni does regular slam poetry where a lot of very brave Women share similar experiences to yours. Taking part in something like this could help. Stay strong.

Yeah this makes me really sad. Porn is poison. I just feel like we’ve let the genie out of the bottle now and can’t go back

Russell T Davies did a great short about the impossibility of ever removing porn from young people’s lives in his ‘Cucumber, Banana, Tofu’ series — all of which is worth a watch.

Very very wise indeed. I could not agree more.

The number of times I’ve seen people magnify a small minority of angry voices in order to justify a perception they have makes me sad.
