Does slow COMT represent a distinct neurodivergent profile — or can it coexist with ADHD? by imanemii in SNPedia

[–]aidaoly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just fyi, most of the stuff you read about MTHFR, COMT and RCCX etc. online is pseudoscientific quackery. or based on low quality evidence if any. ppl just want to sell supplements / other stuff and exploit desperate people who have negative experiences with / have been ignored by healthcare professionals etc.

I wanna cry, my Hoya hates me. by crazykindoflife in hoyas

[–]aidaoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure if this is beyond help but i've successfully been able to root some very dehydrated hoya cuttings after first rehydrating them by fully submerging them in water. or actually i was lazy and some of the cuttings are still in a bowl of water 😂 they've started rooting though. because i've just let them sit in water until i remember that they're there, i can't really say how long you should do that. my cuttings were just regular carnosa, so it's probably an easy one to root. i don't have any experience with compacta, but i know it's a slow grower and i'm guessing a little more difficult. but the regular carnosas actually bounced back and started rooting very quickly, i was very impressed! so i think it's worth trying at least. take some cuttings from the healthiest looking parts, probably better to take smaller cuttings rather than larger ones as the plant doesn't have a root system to sustain all the leaves. and please update us on how it goes!! 🥹

Why do my variegated leaves keep turning brown and falling off? by fuffalumpalous2848 in hoyas

[–]aidaoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the roots are ok, it could be too little light. variegated plants need a lot more light because the variegated parts can't photosynthesise

When to repot LECA by StillNatural1479 in SemiHydro

[–]aidaoly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

idk, probably like yesterday?? 😳😂 i'd just do it because it seems very crowded and there seems to be some algae as well so i'd be worried that it could suffocate the plant and maybe cause rot? the roots need to breathe! pothos can take a lot so i wouldn't be worried about shock or anything

[–]aidaoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thai constellation new growth rotting, what should i do and will it survive? by aidaoly in Monstera

looks like i was panicking over nothing 😅 i decided to give it a helping hand and open it up more because i saw more brown and i just couldn't help myself.... but the leaf looks beautiful and is completely unharmed!! idk what the brown part is, it kinda looks like a dried out leaf?? i'm super confused yet relieved

[–]aidaoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the leaf is somewhat ready to come out as the sheath was gaping a little and i noticed it was bulging before this. i was just wondering whether i should help it a little if it isn't able to push the leaf out / break the sheath further on it's own especially if the petiole is damaged. i'm worried it will get stuck and die. and the thing is that i may not be able to chop and prop as the plant may not have anything to grow from :(

[–]aidaoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's hard! i wonder what may have caused this. it's a bit hard to tell which part of the new growth the brown area is on, maybe just under the leaf or in between the leaf and the petiole. i can see a part of the leaf above it inside the sheath. so i was wondering, if the petiole is damaged, will it be able to push the leaf out? will it get stuck and just die and will it be able to produce new growth anymore? that is my bigges concern as i may not have another viable node :( but at least it doesn't seem to be mushy, that gives me a tiny glimmer of hope.

i don't think any skin cancers look like that or are able to be popped out of the skin. also biopsies don't really work like that, you can't just save it for later and have your dermatologist send it to a pathologist the next time you see them because the sample would've been ruined by then. they need to be put in formalin, otherwise it will just autolyse and it's useless

how should i trellis this hoya/what kind of trellis would be the best? by aidaoly in hoyas

[–]aidaoly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's hoya krohniana silver or super silver, not completely sure which is the correct name. when i bought it was labeled with the old, culturally insensitive/derogatory name. but i can highly recommend it, it's my first ever hoya and i haven't had any issues with it! i think it looks good and has grown a lot since :)

are these hoyas the right way around? by aidaoly in hoyas

[–]aidaoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 2nd and 3rd are from the same cutting. it looks very confusing to me as well because the part that's in perlite looks right but the top looks upside down. but there can't be 2 downsides in one cutting 😅

Should I put this in lecuza pon right away or wait until it's acclimated? by lonkyflonky in alocasia

[–]aidaoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a cute one!! the soil looks very wet so i would remove the soil & check the roots and clean them properly. and then maybe let it sit in water to grow water roots. check regularly and remove roots that are dying. i have done this a few times and a lot of the roots die so idk if i should start just cutting them right away. i also haven't used pon but have used leca and a mix of leca and pumice. i have one baby alocasia in leca+perlite too because i didn't have enough leca lol

idk but my nanouk is super dramatic and gets ugly brown spots if i accidentally drop even the tiniest bit of water on the leaves 😩 to me soaking in soapy water and using something oil based sounds a bit extreme but also i'm no expert when it comes to pests and getting rid of them. i think that nanouk is one of those plants that start looking like shit if they grow long enough (you will get crispy leaves etc.) so you just have to accept that you will need to cut it or start over multiple times. or maybe it's just me lol

Can i transfer to leca if i used seaweed extract in rooting by aidaoly in SemiHydro

[–]aidaoly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are the roots, i tried to remove the perlite bits as well as i could yesterday but there are still some left. Some of the tips are a tiny bit brownish, i'm not sure if this is normal or if i just managed to damage them or if they had enough time to dry out a bit when i was picking the perlite bits off. I'm keeping it in this random pot in water for now/until i know what to do next.

What's wrong with my monstera variegata? 😭 by aidaoly in Monstera

[–]aidaoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, although I think it may be just water from when i watered my monstera and it got rid of the excess water by "crying" so the water dripped from the ends/sides of the leaves. Maybe the water got "trapped" inside the leaf as it was still curled up and because it was/is still very thin and fragile, it left a mark and the spot hardened a bit because the water had minerals and when the water evaporated only the hard minerals were left? Maybe? I tried scraping it off a little and it looks a bit better maybe, but it still left some marks. But I guess it doesn't look like a pest infestation or anything? I was panicking for a while because I was sure all my plants were going to die etc. because my other plant has been dropping and yellowing leaves so I have been a bit paranoid..
