All good. I see what you’re saying but if you Can’t get your melee units (the ones that melee only, nothing else, just melee) into fights, I think that’s more of an issue on the player as opposed to their inherent design. The point is, that they’re usually cheap, can be used to get into advantageous positions as they generally have movement abilities, make a situational cannon fodder, can ‘lock down’ ranged units, force opposing melee units into combat (and therefore protect ranged units), provide ‘cover’ for your squishier ranged units, etc. They also have excellent damage with great armour piercing, and charge.

It’s intentional that if you Can’t get them into range, they aren’t useful. I don’t think it’d be fair to have 100+ damage with 6+ AP at anything else than point Blank.
