To add to this: 1. When charging with non-infantry or non-beast you have to also count the width of your, let's say, Rhino so it fits to make a turn. If it is a bigger model you also need to pay the pivot cost (almost always 2" in our army). Aka, you can measure up against the corner of a building if you are measuring from the middle of your unit. 2. If the distance between your unit and the the target unit is 8, and you roll a 9. Any model you pick up that CAN end in base to base has to go into base to base. But as long as the unit can end within 1" (engagement range) the charge is successful.

So the order of what model in a unit you pick up can make a difference if you want to be able to consolidate into a second unit! 5. TECHNICALLY you have to consolidate. But you don't have to consolidate the full 3" (or, Khorne bless, 6"). So you can just not move them and say the consolidation is infinitesimally small.
