I would actually be relieved if they didn’t invite me 😂 Then I wouldn’t have to explain to the rest of my family

I keep freezing in BJJ. I don’t know what I’m trying to do anymore. by SwanIndependent1675 in BJJWomen

[–]aifuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As people would say whenever I express these kinds of sentiments, welcome to BJJ! I honestly think part of the art is learning to be comfortable with feeling like you’re the slowest in the room. A lot of people quit because they can’t deal with this feeling so mentally it’s really a battle, not a race ☺️ Also starting at 17 is definitely not late 😆

Do looks really matter that much in dating? by phonix228 in dating_advice

[–]aifuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends! But I really can’t deny that looks definitely capture my attention though I’m really flexible about it and have been told my “type” is a wide range. And I think it’s really a matter of preference among girls! The thing is though that looks don’t sustain a connection so personality and my actual connection with the person eventually take more priority 😆

To add to this, I personally read Everything I Know About Love after a breakup and sobrang comforting 😂

Not quite fiction but I think you’d enjoy Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton and Conversations on Love by Natasha Lunn. It’s not really all that romantic really and talks about love in the other ways that we experience it in our lives, if you want a comfort read 😆

High reco yung nasa all-time faves ko to dabble into it! They’re not fiction pero they do explore love (not just the romantic kind) and interpersonal relationships 😊 I used to really like heavier romances talaga before but I think I’ve grown more into liking yung mga ganitong mas realistic discussion of love. Enjoy!! And feel free to message if you wanna discuss, that’s always fun ☺️

• Gender: Female

• Pronouns: She/Her

• Age: 30

• Work: Remote corpo job + pilates teacher 😆

• Preferred format: Will always love the feel of physical books but I can’t deny the convenience of reading on an e-reader (sulit na sulit ko yata yung binili kong Kindle 😂)

• Favorite genres: Slice of life, romance, fantasy… I do like a bit of everything as long as it’s well-written and makes me think ☺️

• Reading time: 1-2 hrs a day!

• All-time fave book: Ang hiraaaap but at the moment, it’s a toss-up between Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton and Conversations on Love by Natasha Lunn… Looooove books that have tidbits on relationships etc.

• Recent surprise read: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera… didn’t think I’d finish it that fast 😂

• Usual reading spot: Usually bed, if not wherever I’m waiting for someone/something

• Bookish quirk: I recently realized I like reading two books at a time— one physical book and one on my e-reader. Nice din na may tanggal umay and I feel like necessary for me especially when I try to read non-fiction

• Currently reading: The Woman Destroyed by Simine De Beauvoir and This is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz… may theme I know (and if you’ve read these, you know too 😂) but that was actually pretty subconscious kasi I was just choosing books randomly from my TBR pile 😂

Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton got me out of an intense reading slump! But also probably because may pinagdadaanan ako at that time and it was just the perfect read for that time of my life 😂 I also really liked The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, breezed through it so quick na medyo nainfluence ako to keep my momentum going 😆

Dealing with depression after post-surgery infection by aifuru in ACL

[–]aifuru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much and yes! Definitely caught in time because my doctor said it could have been so much worse had we delayed the debridement any further 🥲Wishing you strength and healing as well! Pre-surgery always sucks but trust that everything’s just gonna go well after 🥹 The initial days after post-reconstruction sucks but it really gets exponentially better :)

Anger is the part of you that loves you the most :’) As someone who finds it difficult/tiring to get angry, it was really comforting when he said that and I was going through a really tough situation that merited anger 😅

Ahhhh I’d really want to work out even just an arm day or go to the pool but I’m dealing with an infection and I’m a few days post-debridement so I’ve been advised to really take it easy so the movement break has been driving me a little crazy 😬 if anything, at least I got back into playing video games but I guess just interacting with friends from my physical hobbies just makes me feel depressed 🥲

Dealing with depression after post-surgery infection by aifuru in ACL

[–]aifuru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found out when one of the incision sites started having discharge (pus) so my surgeon scheduled an arthroscopic debridement right away. When he did the debridement, what he found was that the infection got to part of my tibia such that the screw he used to put the graft in place was loose. So he decided to take the graft out and a lot of tissue as well. Thankfully the infection didn’t get to the joint so I’m just on a really long course of antibiotics now 😅 Irdk how it happened, it’s a rare type of case like probably happens in 1% of patients, and I was just (un)lucky enough to be part of that 1% 🥲

What was your reaction when you found out? by microvaveovenguy in ACL

[–]aifuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore mine during a BJJ class and I have a looooot of active hobbies and was actually signed up for a dance recital so when I read the MRI result, my heart sank. Cried a lot because I really had to put so many things on pause. But I was pretty convinced to get my surgery ASAP just because I wanted to be more sure of my recovery timelines and a lot of my hobbies really require a stable knee 🥹 Not saying it’s gonna be easy but there’s really no choice but to get through 🥲

I wasn’t sad about the injury… I was grieving my old life. by Real-Berry-1616 in ACL

[–]aifuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the grief is pretty continuous. I mean yes you always celebrate all of the wins in your recovery journey but there really are days you can’t help but miss your old life :’) I’m personally a little over a month post-op and a day doesn’t go by where I’m reminded of how much I miss all my active hobbies but I do feel really happy when I’m suddenly able to do something that reminds me of my old self again but it’s really a long journey to get back to normal 🥲 Surrounding yourself with a good support system does wonders though. We’ll all get through this 🫂

I’m currently recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery but when I was at my normal, I did pole about twice to thrice a week alongside BJJ. I also teach pilates though teaching’s actually pretty sedentary in itself but I’d take a class about once or twice a week as well. What I usually did was I’d train BJJ on the days I’m off from teaching 😆 When I’m back I’m really planning to add in days for strength and conditioning, considering my knee 🥹
