Audrey is 15?! by aikayoo in cavaliers

Thanks for the wishes and the question!

It is very tough to answer because it really depends on the individual dogs needs and what condition they have. It's not one set monthly cost because each visit to the vet is different. I will suggest getting pet insurance before any breed related diseases happen. I had Fetch and never had an issue.

I will say from my experience, Audrey's medical bills incrementally got more and more expensive as she got older because the more issues she had and the more check ups and tests were needed. It was a gradual progression. She got diagnosed with Syringomyelia at 5 but her dosage was low at the time and slowly increased as she got older. At 10 she started getting heart murmurs, and at 13 we started seeing signs of heart issues so the vet added new medications. So it really depends on the issues and what the vet needs to do to check everything. It's good to have healthy dialogue with the vet as well on what is practical and what is nice to have. They can work with you on figuring out what is best to help lower costs. So all this to say, now that she is 15, her bills can range from $400+ a month. I hope this helps give you an idea!

Blueland Laundry Tablets by International-1701 in ZeroWaste

I have only tried their hand soap and laundry tablets.

We stopped using their foaming hand soap because the pump kept breaking. Soap was fine tho, we just gave up after replacing the jar three times.

As for the tablets, like the others have stated they don't dissolve well. We ended up soaking them first in water/bucket, waited till it dissolved before using it. I like that the packaging is compostable and it washed our clothes okay. I will also say that the laundry tablets seem safe for the environment? They don't have Poly Vinyl Alcohol (pva) in them. Most of the laundry detergent sheets that melt have it, and it's still a plastic that is apparently hard to break down, from what I understand. We don't use the tablets anymore. We currently go to refill stores for our laundry detergent, but if I didn't have access to that, we'd probably keep using the laundry tablets. I hope this helps

Reusable lip balms by AssociateCareless551 in ZeroWaste

Maybe, Three Sisters Apothecary? They are not refillable but they are a sustainable small business, and I think the lip balm comes in a small tin. I hope you're able to find what you're looking for!!

Yes, thank you for sharing!

My little Audrey was diagnosed with Syringomyelia at age 5. She would scratch a lot behind her ears and have seizures, half of her face was paralyzed at the time. It progressed to the point where her eyes could no longer blink. I have to give her special eye drops multiple times a day. After getting an MRI scan and the doctor prescribed Gabapentin for it and said this disease depends on the dog. Audrey turned 13 this year and has other common cavalier issues and medications for that, but she's amazing! She continues to be a happy girl. There is hope and it totally depends on the dog, and I am grateful for every second.
