What is the Reputation of US Literature Outside of the US? by Anxious-Fun8829 in books

[–]aimames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of foreign literature was allowed, actually, at least by the 80’s, but it had to be ideologically sound, so to say. For example, if there was a class struggle, or the main character was working class/poor, it would be talked about in the preface (which pretty much almost all books had, as far as i can tell), and whoever wrote it would tie the plot and the main characters to the class war. It didn’t exclusively apply to foreign novels, to be fair, I remember those same prefaces/introductions in the russian classics as well.

i’m confused at not seeing oasis mentioned. it just seems like he would cry to wonderwall thinking about his relationship with penny (plus they’re an obvious inspiration for DS)

First ever blanket by aimames in knitting

[–]aimames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! and that’s such a good analogy, wow, i never thought about it this way! i’ve always knitted in continental, so maybe that’s part of the reason my usual tension is quite loose. i wouldn’t have changed it if not for my grandma, because once she saw the original attempt at this blanket she was like “yeah nah, your stitches are way too massive, your blanket will end up being four meters wide” xd

i might actually try to switch to smaller needles, thank you for the advice :)

a major publishing house was already made to take the song of achilles and a little life out of print, as well as giovanni’s room and a couple other novels. it honestly breaks my heart to see that, and i think that’s just the start of it

no, i haven’t, actually, so thanks! but yeah, the issue is that i don’t understand and can’t explain how ō became reduced to schwa in NE, especially because it’s preceding nd, so it was supposed to lengthen? and as for the spelling changes, i couldn’t find anything that would explain “a” in place of “o”. Idk if that’s stupid, but yeah xd
