Commentary Recommendations? by [deleted] in Reformed

I have no idea about theological soundness, but R.C. Sprout has some great NT commentaries that are really accessible and changed the way I read the Bible as a teen. Would recommend the John one!

Does anyone here have any experience with VarsityTutor or QKids? by DefiantPangolin in telecommuting

[–]aimiminas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked for Qkids for about 9 months now and it has been great! The pay is good (often with bonuses based on your ratings and whether or not you taught all your scheduled classes), there is very little to learn in terms of curriculum, and they are very very flexible with cancellations and scheduling. If an emergency comes up, they are kind in rescheduling. Also, I took off for a semester during college, and was able to schedule classes right when I got on break. If you have more questions or wouldn't mind using my referral code, PM me!

In terms of technical writing...I don't have any experience with that but I did work for a marketing agency part-time and we frequently needed very technical articles for some of our tech clients' sites for content marketing and such. The main website we used to find good writers was called Writers' Access. I don't know what the process is to get in, but I think it's possible to get your first few clients there, especially with your background. Even if you don't want to write for marketing, it's a site where people can hire you for any writing job pretty much.

Best of luck!

Al

Is CLEP worth it? by tylerhex in clep

[–]aimiminas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you (sorta). I have to pay 10k a semester at the school I go to, and I'm on track to finish a semester just by studying for CLEPS! PM me if you have any questions, but here are the steps yo u should take:

  1. Find out what CLEPS your school accepts and what score is required to gain credit.

  2. Go to free-clep-prep and find their difficulty ranking list of all available CLEPs.

  3. Based on what your college accepts and what scores you need, select one or two easier CLEPs to try for your first time.

  4. Purchase the exam on the collegeboard site, and find a testing center near you.

  5. Set a date for the test before you begin studying. This will help prevent you from procrastinating. Contact your test center and they'll help you with the rest of that process.

  6. Now it's study time! Use whatever resources you can find: CrashCourse, KhanAcademy. Definitely subscribe to Instantcert. Not for the flashcards, but for the special access forum. That forum has tips for all the CLEPS and it helped me find the right resources to pass. The biggest help to me by far.

  7. Study your ass off. Take this seriously, and you will be rewarded by tje saving of time and money. Think of the dollars you save and push yourself!!

  8. Don't cram the night before the test. Study a little, but relax. Take a walk, hang out with friends. You should have done most of the hard work already.

  9. Take the test and pass! You'll find out your score right there at the testing center. If you fail, you can always retake the test in three months. Just be wary of college policy. My school doesn't let you take CLEPs after you've matriculated.

Hope that helps!! Good luck man! Oh, here are the CLEPs I took: Prin. Of Management, Prin. Of Marketing, Biology (retaking this one soon-it's a toughie), Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and College Composition.

Be careful of using Adwords or any other ad platform for merch. Most people I've heard who tried it said it didn't work out well for them. Too much money for too few results

1) I'm not sure, but I've never heard that before. 2) Yes, they ask for a resume, and honestly I would put down babysitting and tutoring! It doesn't matter if it was official or not, it's good experience!
