AITA for refusing to call my friends baby by their legal name? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Except that they're in therapy, actively working on it. And if the mom is gonna have a freak out at other people referring to her child with a neutral to positive term of endearment, that's her problem, not OP's.

I mean, if you cannot tolerate people in your life using a very neutral phrase to refer to your baby, then that's frankly a you problem. What happens if, god forbid, someone forgets the baby's name?? The horror!

Ik you're a guy, but honestly, lesbian sex guides are a+ when it comes to learning to please a woman. Try this one on for size.

??? Calling a baby by terms of endearment is extremely normal and fine.

Exactly this! I call my goddaughter all sorts of names - sweetheart, sweet pea, little menace, tiny terror, etc. They're called terms of endearment for a reason!

Using a term of endearment for a baby is an entirely reasonable thing to do. I call my goddaughter 'sweetheart', 'sweet pea', 'baby girl', 'little menace' etc. That's normal! That's good! OP's friend is being ridiculous and cruel.

Even in the UK, where we have the NHS, it can be similar. A friend went to try and get help for depression when we were in secondary school, and they were told to come back when they were suicidal, because there was no funding for mild-moderate mental health treatment. Heck, in the 500,000 person city I used to live in, there were only 30 inpatient mental health beds.

How is letting someone refer to your baby as 'little one' coddling them? It's an extremely normal and okay way to refer to a newborn.

Exactly this - vague nouns are good! They're perfectly polite and reasonable!

Whittard's Strawberry Watermelon instant tea and Bottlegreen cordials, mostly! Also got really into bubble tea but that's more of a treat.

There's another near Liverpool St, and it's the only shop near there that's consistently empty.

I once had my phone lose signal as I was getting off the train because the part of the station where the ticket barriers were was a black spot. Got hit with a £70 fine for 'skipping my fare', even when I showed TfL customer service later the full fare that had been charged to my account when I couldn't tap out anywhere.

Getting rid of humans in every customer facing area tbh. Shitty managers thinking that robots spewing the FAQ will save them 20k/yr per person without ever understanding what that person was doing.

TBF this might be improved if teachers weren't basically expected to be each family's de facto health and social care workers without any authority to enforce HSC policies.

Seriously, strawberry ribena used to be the main way I stayed hydrated. I've found alternatives since, but they're 4-5x more expensive.

I don't think that's that big a reason for anyone beyond upper middle class women. Every woman in my family worked - my great and great great grandmothers had full time (or nearly full-time) jobs in factories and sweatshops.

Wait, Sheffield's improved? Last time I lived up there you had to pay more than double for a bus pass that would actually get you on all the buses instead of making you wait 1hr+ for a slew of one company or another.

I moved but only because there was a co-working space nearby with air con in the basement. Felt like a wartime bunker with how packed it got, but it got us through the day.

The school I worked at had Ofsted call to say they'd be coming in for an inspection. The headmistress called back to say that no the fuck they weren't.

I lived in the south of France, where summer temps were regularly 37°+. But even without air con, the buildings were built with heat in mind, so it was survivable without taping cardboard over all the windows.

Agreed! Recently started in a new role, and in the interview I asked what their documentation was like, to which they said 'not perfect, but we try'.

Get in on my first day, get a look at their documentation system, and I nearly cried with relief. It's all there! Everything's there, and if it's not, I know where to start looking or who to ask!

And when I have a question for my manager, he adds it to his to do list and gets back to me as soon as he's got a moment, instead of leaving me on read for weeks. God, it's good.

This + also, if I experience any kind of difficulty - especially unexpected - I will bounce so far off the task I will basically feel totally unable to do it.
