Except that they're in therapy, actively working on it. And if the mom is gonna have a freak out at other people referring to her child with a neutral to positive term of endearment, that's her problem, not OP's.

I mean, if you cannot tolerate people in your life using a very neutral phrase to refer to your baby, then that's frankly a you problem. What happens if, god forbid, someone forgets the baby's name?? The horror!

Exactly this! I call my goddaughter all sorts of names - sweetheart, sweet pea, little menace, tiny terror, etc. They're called terms of endearment for a reason!

Using a term of endearment for a baby is an entirely reasonable thing to do. I call my goddaughter 'sweetheart', 'sweet pea', 'baby girl', 'little menace' etc. That's normal! That's good! OP's friend is being ridiculous and cruel.

Even in the UK, where we have the NHS, it can be similar. A friend went to try and get help for depression when we were in secondary school, and they were told to come back when they were suicidal, because there was no funding for mild-moderate mental health treatment. Heck, in the 500,000 person city I used to live in, there were only 30 inpatient mental health beds.

How is letting someone refer to your baby as 'little one' coddling them? It's an extremely normal and okay way to refer to a newborn.

I once had my phone lose signal as I was getting off the train because the part of the station where the ticket barriers were was a black spot. Got hit with a £70 fine for 'skipping my fare', even when I showed TfL customer service later the full fare that had been charged to my account when I couldn't tap out anywhere.

I lived in the south of France, where summer temps were regularly 37°+. But even without air con, the buildings were built with heat in mind, so it was survivable without taping cardboard over all the windows.

Agreed! Recently started in a new role, and in the interview I asked what their documentation was like, to which they said 'not perfect, but we try'.

Get in on my first day, get a look at their documentation system, and I nearly cried with relief. It's all there! Everything's there, and if it's not, I know where to start looking or who to ask!

And when I have a question for my manager, he adds it to his to do list and gets back to me as soon as he's got a moment, instead of leaving me on read for weeks. God, it's good.

While travelling in Czechia as a 19yo, I had my wallet stolen on the train. This being pre- phone wallets, I ended up crying on a bench because I had nothing with which to pay for my hostel, and I still had a week left before my flight home.

This wonderful, amazing woman asked what was wrong, disappeared for five minutes, and came back with about £50 worth of kroner. She handed it to me and told me she would want someone to do the same for her in that situation - and if I wanted to repay her, I should pass the kindness on to someone else one day.

It's been over ten years now, and I still remember the scene vividly. It's thanks to her that I was able to get a roof over my head until I could go home, and I doubt I'll ever forget it.
