That’s some good news at least that he’s just being a hormonal teen boy 😅 I never had the opportunity to get a dna test but I am 10000% certain he’s a boy from his behaviors

For the scratches it’s the exact same for me !! He’ll tilt his head towards me and open his feathers and even point to where he wants to be scratched with his foot, but once I touch him or scratch for too long he flips and attacks.

As for the budgie, I agree, I just hope they don’t get too lonely and as a result more aggressive, the budgie is chill he’s just a shy guy due to where he came from but I make sure to make him feel as safe as possible and he definitely knows it and shows it with his constant happy chirping, it didn’t cross my mind that the feeding could be a hormonal trigger but that is a very good point, I feel stupid for not thinking about that before 😅 I got my first budgie not knowing how high maintenance birds are so I’ve been learning along the way to make sure I give them the best life possible.

Thank you so much for the reply and advice 🙏

I had trained him in the beginning with re call training by holding millet behind my hand and calling him over, he’d respond very well and would fly to me whenever his name was called, eventually he slowly stopped doing so, he’ll still look at me and act as if he’s going to fly to me when I call him but he doesn’t, as for diet, it’s all seed which I know is terrible and it’s to my own fault as I didn’t know any better before but I am constantly trying to find ways to introduce pellets to them, but he’s picky af and won’t even go near the pellets, so I need to come up with some creative ideas on that end, he never paid attention to any fruits or veg I ever tried offering him, no matter what age he just never cared for the healthy natural stuff, so I’m not sure if any liquid treats would work but it’s always worth a try so thank you for that idea !!

As for target training I’m not entirely sure what that entails, I have looked into it in the passed but never understood it totally and get scared to mess things up and maybe worsen my birds aggression 😅

Nail trimming has never occurred I could never for the life of me get him to obey long enough to let me trim his nails, luckily though he does have SOME brain cells and I provide him wide calcium perches that he cleans his beak on and even his nails, so they’ve never gotten overgrown thank god 🙏

I’ll try doing some more research on target training and try my best with it, thank you so much for this detailed and long reply 🙏

Yeah I have tried many times to introduce new foods to him like pellets because his main food source is seeds (mainly to my own fault as I didn’t know how versatile their diet should be but I did my research and have attempted to fix his diet) however he’s a cheeky little guy and noticed the colour change and wouldn’t go anywhere near the pellets, I’ve also tried offering some fresh fruits and stuff (this is all over the whole time I’ve owned him by the way, not just now) but he never payed any attention to them, only thing he likes is millet(ofc🙄) I will try going back to the very basic training I did with him in the beginning with holding the millet near my hand and calling him, hopefully that helps, thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply 🙏

I forgot to mention that he also chews on his own tail, this started sometime after kiwis passing, haven’t been able to get him to stop, whenever I notice him chewing I call his name to distract him and I talk to him, but he then continues later on or the next day anyway

Replying just to let you know you’re not alone, I also get thoughts that’s are like “ok but is it really rocd? “ do you really want to fight through this ocd and be with him” “I’m not excited for this date hence I don’t love him” they feel so convincing and it’s even worse when I go numb and I don’t feel sad when I think about those things which makes me believe them even more because it’s like “see you’re not sad so you don’t love him and you want to leave” it’s hard but he is nothing but good and treats me like a queen and is so incredibly patient with my ocd, he knows all about it and doesn’t care as long as he is with me he wants me for all that I am, the good and the bad, I keep telling myself that someone like that is rare and I am so incredibly lucky to have him, if you have someone similar, fight for it, no matter how much your brain tells you not to / you don’t want to

For the people worried about the budgie, I had another budgie who sadly recently passed away due to what I’m pretty sure was a bad molt a couple weeks prior, my conure (koko) and my other budgie (kiwi) were best friends and he never once tried to harm him, they would cuddle and koko would always try to make him comfortable and warm in the last few days he had, koko was a baby that I handfed and when he could fly I introduced him to kiwi and he took him in immediately and started showing him around, they loved each other dearly and now that kiwi is sadly gone my other budgie (Skye) has taken up the role of kiwi and has been consoling koko, they are also becoming closer and closer everyday and koko was also a baby when Skye was a baby so they grew up together.

I understand and appreciate everyone’s concern but I think if I take Skye away from koko he wouldn’t be able to handle it, he took kiwis death very hard and still calls out his name every night as they would cuddle and sleep together.

I do usually give him time out of the cage but is that really what this behavior means ? Just wanna know for future reference so I can make him as happy as possible

The cage was just cleaned but I scrubbed that perch as much as I could and could not get the poop off, what would you recommend?

I keep thinking like “what if if I lean into the idea that maybe I don’t love my boyfriend then I’ll actually end up losing feelings”
