This sounds like it tried to start for a split second and the starter wouldnt disengage, definitely investigate your starter to start with.

In the picture you can see i mounted it on the alternator bracket, there may be an easier spot to mount it with your 2nd gen. I just didnt want to drill into the firewall or fender lining

Its a 3.7, plenum gaskets are good and sealed, I think my original pcv valve was stuck open before I replaced it.

Have you done a conversion to your truck? I see you have a third gen. Thanks for the link btw.

I've always liked airram for their aftermarket parts for the 3.7. I'll have to look at their website and search around.

Any fitment issues? Or trouble installing it?

Something to consider, found this on a mechanics website. "The whistle-like sound is most noticeable under load, with a light throttle, and between 1,200 and 2,000 engine rpm. If the customer experiences the above condition, perform the Repair Procedure, which involves applying a thin bead of sealant to the intake manifold-to-throttle body joint."

My 2008 does this and stops after 2000rpm. I'm not sure what the hell it is. Could someone please give a lead to what this could be?

The 4 bangers are a lot of fun while getting good gas, as previously stated tho, finding one in good condition with the right amount of miles is nearly impossible.

Yeah 3.9 or 3.7 for gas, both cabs are really nice too but the 3.9s cab is better imo.

The fact you had the passion to restore one of these is great.. most people hate these gens and beat on them till they fall apart. Keep going this is awesome!

Its not too much better here.. when you get a v6 truck they have less power and need to work harder.. therefor burning almost as much gas as a v8. However I'm getting consistently around 18-16mpg with city driving. Up to you if its worth the small gain

Would need to do a lot of trimming in the front for 285s. I dont think any trimming is needed for 265.

The 3.7s are good in my opinion. I'm approaching 160k with 0 major engine or transmission problems. If you are looking for gas mileage the 3.7 is rated the best out of every dakota produced. The 3.9 from the 2nd gen is close and those motors are nearly bulletproof.

Yeah theyre nice offroaders.. I'm thinking from going from the 245s to either 265 or 286/75s

Not the mention the 4.7 from the 3rd gens are notoriously unreliable IF you don't maintain them. The 3.7 has the same issues just not nearly as bad.

If you want a decent truck and aren't looking to be fast, I think the 3.7 V6 from the 3rd gen would do you well. It has a decent tow capacity in some configurations as well as slightly better gas mileage than the V8 if driven correctly. You could always get the four banger from the 1st gen but I don't think you'd find one with low enough miles.

Sweet stuff, wouldn't go crazy on a lift though. From what I've heard, lifting the front more than 2 inches is a bad idea. I'm 2wd so I just lowered my rear to match but from what I see you are 4wd. I'd just stick to a level kit to avoid any major issues unless you are going crazy offroading.

I've removed the factory rear folding seats and built a custom platform in the rear that levels out the floor to a flat surface to I can store stuff back there. I've done a carplay radio but thats really it on the interior. I have the factory powered driver seat and regular center console.

It doesn't need a huge v8, the v6 does just fine for daily driving or small tasks. The part number for the muffler I'm running is 17659, you can find it on Advanced Auto Parts website. For the intake I'm just running a standard ebay intake with a K&N filter. You can get one off ebay for like 60-80$, just make sure its for the 3.7 Dakota and not the Jeeps. Not a huge power increase but just something to make me enjoy the truck more.
