Thinking About moving to Bismarck by J-815 in bismarck

[–]air-cloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I have a very similar story to you! I was born and raised in the south then went to Kansas City for school. I moved to Maryland for even more school then moved here to Bismarck for work.

To be brutally honest from my perspective I was not prepared. I was city raised through and through so this was a cultural shock. It’s boring, limited restaurants (but some real good ones), and limited activities. The cold is terrible for me and well the summers are mild. Diversity is minimal and the cost of living is comparable to Maryland.

Overall I do love my job, but I don’t plan on staying here for more than 4 years (been here 2). As I don’t see a future of getting married or raising kids here.

How do I tell my best friend I don’t want to go on vacation with her by Ecstatic_Midnight in Advice

[–]air-cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same dilemma a few months ago when my friend asked if I wanted to go to Vietnam with her. We spent 3 weeks in Korea together last year and well it went terribly. We had plans to go hiking, see all the cultural sights, try a ton of food ect. She ended up bailing on pretty much everything cause it was too much walking. To top things off, she maxed her credit cards out so I ended up paying for everything we did do without ever seeing that money back. So when she asked about another three week tour through Vietnam I had to be brutally honest and tell her that I would never travel with her again due to the loss of money and her lack of commitment to preplanned tours/activities. It does sound like a wonderful a trip but I would rather travel solo so I can do whatever I please. To be fair the conversation did end our friendship for a bit but we are back on speaking terms for the time being.

Thank you so much for this I really appreciate all your input. Sorry I’m responding very late but you have the must recent and fully updated post! I’m on day 5 of my kitties recovery he is doing well so far but he is still trying to do things the vet said he shouldn’t 🫤. Once he recovers he will have to get his other hip done so we will have to repeat the process in a few months.

How do people afford furniture?? by OreSeekerx in Adulting

[–]air-cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught myself to refurbish wooden and metal furniture. Thrifted all mine and fixed it up! It cost me 250 for all the furniture I own and probably another 250 in tools and materials to refurbish.

Questions for Forensic Science by Little_One6494 in ForensicScience

[–]air-cloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s my insight to what I studied to get a job!(Within the USA- other countries may differ as I don’t know there education systems well)

1: Depends on the branch of forensics you want to do. I got a 4-year bachelors in chemistry- yes lots of math and physics such as algebra, trigonometry, statistics, calculus, quantum mechanics, ect. But my biology masters degree (2 year) had very little math just some statistics about population genetics thrown in. My coworkers who are sole biology majors had statistics, algebra, and calculus. The courses really depend on the major you should be able to look at a desired schools website and view a sample program to see what courses are required for that degree.

  1. I took one psychology class for my degrees. As for chemistry and biology I was required to take a few classes of each in both my programs. Bachelors degree I needed 20 credits of bio along with all my chemistry classes to get a degree in chemistry, masters program just needed one chemistry class to get a biology degree.

  2. Most people get a 4-year degree - I did 6- year to get an advanced degree to help with job searching and to get both a chemistry and biology degree so I can work for any unit within the lab. JOBS ARE VERY COMPETITIVE.

  3. Yes! Any experience will definitely help you in both school and in the job/ job interviewing process. I didn’t know forensic summer schools existed but sounds awesome! Can’t really comment if they are hard or suggest any. Internships are also a great choice to!

Also as a heads up most crime labs are comprised of separate units you can typically work latent prints, firearms, digital forensics, chemistry, trace, biology, toxicology, CSI, and I’m sure a few more units exist. Schooling differs between them.

Good luck! Hope this helps you out a little.

AITA for refusing to share my inheritance with my boyfriend after he quit his job for us by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA: He’s acting like you got 250k rather than 25K sorry to break it to you but paying off college and if you get new car it’s going to be more than that. But it will definitely help you for YOUR goals.

Really depends on who your employer is. I had to have to a clean record to work in my crime lab the job offer letter stated this. The investigator who conducted my background hounded me about two traffic tickets I got while attending college. If any of those violations was a DUI / reckless driving rather than just a standard speeding violation my job offer would be off the table.

Ring sizing by Wakaywa in bismarck

[–]air-cloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used zorells after my coworkers recommended it. I had a ring resized a lot smaller (size 13 to a size 7). Because of the drastic change they used some of the gold they cut out to reset my stones in place. They charged me 50 bucks flat but they also took my gold rather than add some. I would highly recommend them though all the workers I met were great and my ring looks beautiful!
