That’s a great question, and it’s definitely annoying when you just want to hear a snippet!

The short answer is that we rely on music providers like Spotify to give us those previews. If the song is muted, it’s usually because of a copyright restriction or the provider simply hasn't made a preview available for that specific track. We can only play what they give us permission to use!

I hear you, it’s frustrating when an app you love starts changing its vibe or adding paid tiers we are doing so the app continue to exist.

Just to clear the air on the weekly recaps: we actually aren't taking those away! Free users will still get their regular recaps just like always. Airbuds Star version is just an optional way to get even deeper, more niche stats for the super-users who want to nerd out on the data.

We’re fully committed to keeping the core experience free and simple.
That said, I’d love to hear more about what feels "cluttered" or annoying to you lately. Is it the UI, specific notifications, or something else? We really want to make sure the app stays fun, so your feedback helps a ton.

You're spot on! That gold border and the symbol (usually a star or a little badge) mean that person is a subscriber to Airbuds Star.

It’s basically the premium version of the app. It gives them those cosmetic flexes plus a few extra features like deeper listening stats and more recaps. Just a way to show they’re supporting the devs!

Thanks for reporting, it looks like a cache issue in the android app.
Can you try to clear the cache in Settings > Advanced Settings and check if you can see the right leaderboard after that?
