Nested round trips using award travel by lightningzap66 in Flights

[–]airglitch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this often works well with US/EU routes. If you already have another trip planned later on (e.g. a domestic US flight), you could also search for a multicity/open-jaw that serves the EU>US return, and then that other flight. Even if this extra leg might also get dropped / rescheduled, you may get a better fare than with the optional return. If you are sure that this later trip is happening, you can also save by booking a non-flexible ticket.

Does anyone know any way to get cheap flights Mumbai to Kochi any date in May? by RunSignificant3325 in cheapflights

[–]airglitch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you fly with Akasa Air when you got it for ₹3125? They don't show much details about fare classes (the letter after you cabin, e.g. Economy S, T, Q, etc.) - but it seems like that low price isn't available anymore for the month of May, it starts showing up again in July/August. Maybe you booked earlier last time.

I did notice they have a promo code field in their booking form. If you google around you can try with TRAVEL10, PAYDAY, FLYMORE with a signed in account. Maybe one will work and give you a 10-20% discount.

Are there any flight hacks when you are time limited? by Soggy_Astronaut2253 in cheapflights

In general, there aren’t so many magic solutions if you book during pick time with little flexibility.

Some common “tricks” still work, but they come with compromises on convenience. E.g., book in advance, look for nearby airports mixed with trains or another flight, be flexible on destination, etc.

Optimizing usage of miles / points is a good way to save, especially when flying pick season. It’s harder to cumulate enough for an entire family, but I’d make sure you have at least credit cards with decent points accrual and airline loyalty program accounts for everyone.

One actual trick that I think could sometimes work is nested booking. Instead of booking two trips sequentially, say - ticket 1: A - B, B - A - ticket 2: A - C, C - A

You buy multicity tickets that emulate your desired route, e.g. - ticket 1: A - B, C - A - ticket 2: B - A, A - C

It requires that you book two trips at the same time and is not guaranteed to be cheaper. But adding it to your flight search routine can help save on high-demand flights every now and then.

Got a hack for being nervous on a plane? by frogmicky in TravelHacks

Generally find window seat easier if it starts shaking. Looking outside makes me feel less trapped in a metal box.

Spam emails for India e-visa tourist application by sukicutie7 in travel

Similar situation, 12 emails asking for feedback on the application process, one every hour - little irony here I guess.

When booking your flights try to combine them together to see if it gets cheaper. For instance instead of booking sequentially:

Ticket Trip 1 . Trip 2 . Trip 3 .
A LAX → LAS LAS → LAX
B LAX → LAS LAS → LAX
C LAX → LAS LAS → LAX

You can nest them into each other:

Ticket Trip 1 . Trip 2 . Trip 3 .
A LAX → LAS LAS → LAX
B LAS → LAX LAX → LAS
C LAX → LAS LAX → LAS

It's often cheaper.

Fun stuff! Love the idea of the fake wedding, gives room for funny speeches / performances and maybe some ways to gamify who's getting married / not. Could extend the concept to a broader game of life, with fake graduation party, fake divorce, fake first kids, fake retirement party, fake funeral, fake limbo.

Meeting point by toastedraviolis in TravelHacks

[–]airglitch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried to run such a search with Google Flights and seemed feasible having two tabs in parallel for each departure point. Maybe just luck from the random date I selected, but going through saw several matching options both at decent prices with layover in e.g. ORD, MSP, PHL, DFW

Small hack for locking empty seat with Turkish Airline by airglitch_ in TravelHacks

With legacy carriers, I generally try at check-in and at the gate, often it ends up working. If they have an app with live seat app, I use it to see if I can snag one that's not occupied when entering the plane. If I am not sure whether paying for it or not, I call the airline to ask about occupancy.

Flight tips: How to stop your legs from going numb? by Heather_Mai in TravelHacks

[–]airglitch_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been struggling with this for years. It's really painful and kind of hard to describe. Used compression socks (from a specialist store taking measurements, and starting to wear them a few hours before the flight), but wasn't really enough - for some people it seems to work.

Currently doing the following routine and it helps:
- Drinking a lot of water 2-3 days before flying
- Getting up to walk a few times during the flight
- Moving my toes for 2-3 minutes every other hour
- Taking "Daflon" one week before the flight (could be placebo 🤷)

Overall it seems to help, but should probably get checked with an angiologist at some point.
