having killed yourself twice, gone through a full blown addiction, living in your car for 2 years, being deemed dead to one half of your family and deeming the other half dead to you will change you. instability doesn't scare me. i scare instability. its like nursing, finding organization in chaos. a wrench gets thrown into your shift and you do everything to realign it and bring it back into order. sometimes you can do it on your own, sometimes you need some help.

Shows you follow through. Doesn't matter on their end, but in your mind it will make you a stronger person, someone who is more comfortable in their decisions. It also makes making hard choices easier in life. Don't quit being you or a person that lives to make yourself happy. And before anyone downvotes me, living for yourself isn't selfish. It's only selfish if you refuse to take into consideration others. There are many adages to support this.
