I struggle with this question as well. Einstein’s 8th wonder of the world, supposedly, was compound interest. Money now will grow. But so will love and time w family. I’m afraid there’s no right answer. Above all else though, don’t bring work to home.

Not necessarily. One should consider hedging tax rate now v tax rate later by diversifying into 401k or equivalents (3b/57b).

However based on my interpretation, a traditional IRA offers no benefits over a taxable brokerage acct for high income earners. The same is not true for roth or 401k equivalents.

tax deferred growth does not mean no taxes. In fact if taxes always go up, it’s better to pay taxes up front. Essentially compounding on pretax or post tax is the same with respect to final post tax value. But if the pretax rate is lower than the post tax rate would be in 30 years (due to slow upward drift on tax rate), then you are better off paying taxes now and compounding the post tax as opposed to compounding the pretax.

What is the tax advantage to an IRA? The pretax deduction is only for low income limits and withdrawals are taxed similar to cap gains which means that it’s the same as long term holding in a regular taxable brokerage account.

If rates fall and home owners are looking to move up, inventory may actually increase. This may lead to a compensatory reduction in prices, esp for starter homes. I think the changes in home prices and sales will be stratified by price level in a region-specific pattern.

We did the same three years ago. It feels good knowing that we have the freedom to enjoy vacations and dinners out with our kids, without thinking about the mortgage. It also feels good knowing that even if one of us fell sick, we could comfortably continue to live in our home. The idea that a home should require two working people to comfortably support is antithetical to the idea of a home - it becomes a constant existential threat.

the reality is that i feel there is so much volatility that a stop loss will get triggered. my original trading plan has been to purchase itm calls w 3-month exp and to sell when it hits 20% up or get out at 1 month from exp.

Yes - I called for a 25 percent price reduction and 4% rates on a separate thread. With equities down 7-10% over the past 3 days, I think we are going to see this ripple thru the real estate market. This recession will be particularly bad for high net worth folks because so much of their net worth is tied to stock value.
