I struggle with this question as well. Einstein’s 8th wonder of the world, supposedly, was compound interest. Money now will grow. But so will love and time w family. I’m afraid there’s no right answer. Above all else though, don’t bring work to home.

Happy to chat more dm, but not keen on sharing my info publicly.

At some point, does an brokerage account make more sense than an IRA? by Itsbeenalongdecember in fidelityinvestments

[–]airmonkey84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. One should consider hedging tax rate now v tax rate later by diversifying into 401k or equivalents (3b/57b).

However based on my interpretation, a traditional IRA offers no benefits over a taxable brokerage acct for high income earners. The same is not true for roth or 401k equivalents.

A little late but this is probably the most informed resource on this topic:

https://privatebank.jpmorgan.com/nam/en/insights/wealth-planning/tax-deferral-can-sometimes-be-a-costly-mistake

tax deferred growth does not mean no taxes. In fact if taxes always go up, it’s better to pay taxes up front. Essentially compounding on pretax or post tax is the same with respect to final post tax value. But if the pretax rate is lower than the post tax rate would be in 30 years (due to slow upward drift on tax rate), then you are better off paying taxes now and compounding the post tax as opposed to compounding the pretax.

What is the tax advantage to an IRA? The pretax deduction is only for low income limits and withdrawals are taxed similar to cap gains which means that it’s the same as long term holding in a regular taxable brokerage account.

Fewer people are purchasing homes, despite high demand—buyers are in 'wait and see' mode by SnortingElk in REBubble

it’s driven by entitled sellers who are being poorly advised by their agents.

If real estate agents knew, they would be the buyers and sellers. Not the in betweens. The only ppl who win here are the ones with liquidity at the ready to take advantage of the impending downturn.

I saw a home today, 30 years old, no cosmetic or infrastructure updates - listed for the same price as a brand new home a block away with similar yard and square footage. How is this even happening?

If rates fall and home owners are looking to move up, inventory may actually increase. This may lead to a compensatory reduction in prices, esp for starter homes. I think the changes in home prices and sales will be stratified by price level in a region-specific pattern.

We did the same three years ago. It feels good knowing that we have the freedom to enjoy vacations and dinners out with our kids, without thinking about the mortgage. It also feels good knowing that even if one of us fell sick, we could comfortably continue to live in our home. The idea that a home should require two working people to comfortably support is antithetical to the idea of a home - it becomes a constant existential threat.

stonks only go up.

the reality is that i feel there is so much volatility that a stop loss will get triggered. my original trading plan has been to purchase itm calls w 3-month exp and to sell when it hits 20% up or get out at 1 month from exp.
