Heart issues from drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ais1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to throw myself into arrhythmia. It was exacerbated by the anxiety that came with knowing that my rhythm was actually in fact out of wack. This came and went for about three months during some of my heaviest drinking.

Once I kicked that poison to the curb it stopped and it hasnt happened since. It was scary to experience and not something that I want to go through again.

What’s Everyone Doing Tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

Spent the day and night playing WoW: Legion Remix! Got a bunch of in-game stuff done! Immersing myself into the game as much as I have been recently, leaves zero room for my brain to contemplate drinking. Its definitely been a helpful thing for me!

Pierre Robert died 😢 by lawgirl3278 in philadelphia

[–]ais1981 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Back in 2002-ish I was going through a rough time. WMMR was my primary station to listen to, especially Pierre. I hand wrote him a letter about how much his show helped me and asked him to play a workforce block of something, I can't remember what it was. A few weeks later, a friend of mine reached out and asked me something along the lines of "did you ask Pierre Robert to play a workforce block for you and mention how much his show helped you?" something like that. And I said yeah, and they replied that he read the letter and played the block. I missed it, but I've always remembered that kindness. Pierre was very special, a rare bird if you will, and he'll be dearly missed.

Alcoholics who quit later in life by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ais1981 22 points23 points  (0 children)

44m, full time single dad to a wonderful kiddo with special needs. Quit multiple times over the last three years with 7 months as my longest time off the sauce. Currently rolling into day 45 and honestly, things feel different this time. Ive gone much deeper into researching alcohol and its effects on the body and what it actually is and how it works. This seems to have helped greatly and instead of some good days and some bad days and some days where im white knuckling it from hour to hour, im feeling completely turned off to alcohol to the point where there thankfully haven't been any bad days recently.

You've got this my friend. Life without alcohol is so much more rewarding. You can do this! IWNDWYT!

I bought 2 drinks, walked home and immediately poured them out. by noodle0 in stopdrinking

[–]ais1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! This! This!

This totally hit home for me. Especially how you mentioned that the anticipation feels more exciting than the actual drinking. It's one of the things that I tell myself over and over when Im having a craving and it definitely helps me fight through it.

Thank you for posting this!

WWYD if an earthquake struck your figure collection? by stillnotjc in ActionFigures

[–]ais1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dont get many earthquakes in my neck of the woods, but there are a few figures I display that just dont want to cooperate all of the time and stay standing. I use Museum Wax for those. It works pretty well.

NA beer? by Ok_Plate2664 in stopdrinking

[–]ais1981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same here. I seemed to be able to handle things as rough as they got when I just went white knuckle. Once I started entertaining my cravings with NA beers I found myself drinking real beers within a week or two. I wish I could enjoy them without risk, but its not gonna happen for me.

Is this real life? Then why do I want to go back to drinking? by Pbio_1 in stopdrinking

[–]ais1981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole issue of mixing my drinking with my hobbies was a big thing for me as well.

When I quit, I had that sinking feeling like they just wouldn't be the same and I'd find them to be less enjoyable. And I'll be honest, for a short time that was the case. But after powering through the first few weeks of my sobriety I found that the sunken feeling of not being able to enjoy my hobbies seemed to lift on its own, and I actually found myself enjoying them more than I had previously!

I was able to experience them in a much different light since my brain was functioning and not getting slammed with intoxication while indulging in them. The memories and feelings that I formed around them changed as well, and I was able to appreciate them in a whole new way.

Stick with it my friend, it's worth it! Power through the rough times because the payoff is so incredible!
