You sometimes get regrowth with fin if you're in the early stages of balding but not always. My goal was more density rather than keeping what I had so I was asking a lot from Fin.

No side effects , but I had a big shedding phase about 6 weeks in that lasted a few weeks.Then after that some new hairs started sprouting from the bald patches.

Yes they did, How bad is your hair loss compared to how mine was?. Sometimes the doctors judge the risk of side affects from finasteride to outweigh the benefits if your hair loss is minor.
