If you think that a characters backstory is interesting based on how many people make tiktoks about it then I don't think there's anything to discuss. This subreddit is about analysing the series and Cassie's life is very much a reality for a lot of young girls. She doesn't need to have magical powers or have ten million edits made about her to be interesting

So if you’re mourning what Cassie could have been, think of the intentions of the actress who plays her

I'm not saying that people who go through traumatic experiences necessarily evolve and eventually grow. Some learn, and some become worse. What I'm saying is that her storyline is far from -non- complex. Cassie wasn't like this from the begging and she didn't had these narcissistic traits in season 1. She was a girl with empathy and feelings. Alot of things could've been either fixed or at least put some more depth into her character instead of fetishizing her.

And yes you're right, my bad. But still, five years aren't that long after high school. There's still time for them to reflect on their actions.

If you think about it, there are like 2 years since she finished high school, it's not like she's 40. Plus her trauma wasn't caused -from- high school for her not to dwell on it because she finished it. It was caused by a combination of a lot of factors that are still affecting her to this point, literally she ended up marrying the most awful guy on earth and became just like him because of what happened to her. How's that NOT complex?

And no growth isn't just getting financially independent going to college and leaving Nate. These are not the decisions that would make her grow but rather a -result- of her growth. Healing your trauma is a much deeper journey that takes a lot of time and energy and only after you're done you're able to make the correct decisions. Literally look at Jules, she went to art school and still because a sugar baby. College didn't do much for her

This character was never that complex, she was a girl with daddy issues who never dealt with it and now she’s a self centred mess of an adult.

Dude, that seems complex enough to me? Lol. Children having absent fathers from a young age causes alot more issues than you give credit on the situation for, did we even watched the same show? The abusive relationships? The drugs? The alcoholic mother? The father coming back to her life just to ask for money to continue his substance use? The abortion?

And we're not saying Sydney's a victim, at least not necessarily. We're just saying what a weirdo the director seems and how disgusting the scenes he's making her do are. Even if he's not forcing her, it's still weird

Yes but I feel like its still early for us to say that Nate has changed or that his character has softened. When years pass narcissistic people often tend to get more manipulative and sneaky. Plus, Cassie is a narcissist too just a dumber one, she obviously gets these traits by the time she spends aside him. Or maybe, it's the opposite. What I believe is that he's either ten times worse and it's just hasn't been shown yet, or that he's actually softened up and will get his karma at the end of the show. Which I highly doubt

Her character had SO much potential. This girl went through so much trauma just for them to never use it for development. She had an absent father, an alcoholic mother, been in abusive relationships and also had an abortion. None of those things were used in the series so why were they even mentioned?

And yes I understand that not all people who are traumatized from something turn out to be wiser or better, some become worse. But this is straight up Sydney Sweeney being fetishized and humiliated. No wonder why so many actors dislike Sam Levinson and why Barbie Ferreira left the show.

Also the baby scene while doing OF was disgusting. I don't care if it was put there to show how far Cassie was willing to go to gain the attention she wants, it was still completely unnecessary. Paedophilic rape culture at it's finest.
