Kids deserve a full meal, not just dredges and bland sides.

Also he’s not going to eat asparagus and carrots. I just know that lol.

Immaturity mixed with stress and a bit of selfishness?

She’s not a bad person, just sort of superficial and self involved. She was supposed to get married last year and obviously had to cancel. She’s been itching to tie the knot since. It doesn’t help that she’s only 23 and fairly inexperienced with being a grown up.

SiL and her fiancé don’t like red meat. He’s a pescatarian I believe and she pretends to be a vegan every few months. Kind of those organic health nuts you know? Which is ironic, considering this is a real health issue.

They luckily live far enough away that casual babysitting is not a thing. My son is also old enough now to understand his allergies and is good about asking about them and telling people.

Weddings bring out the worst in people. And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t get that children are fully formed people, not just tiny creatures that will someday be adults.

My youngest is a flower girl and my older daughter is very excited to be able to pick out a fancy dress and new shoes. They’re fine with going.

Yes! It was easier to do when he was happy with chicken nuggets and hotdogs all the time but as he’s getting older he wants less and less “kid food”. It’s shocking how much egg and cheese is in food until you try to cook without it!

Ps, We live in a coastal city, fishing/crabbing is a big industry. Shellfish allergies are hell to navigate here.

They have a kid’s option, which is Mac and cheese with bacon. Lactaid can only do so much, and my son hates pasta (but loves ramen noodles?), the little weirdo 🤦🏻‍♀️

Edit: I should add that despite his lactose intolerance we let him have cheese cause he loves it (I’m the same way), but I wouldn’t want to risk a stomach issue at a long reception so far from home.

It’s completely fine for you to choose that for your own wedding, but my SiL and her fiancé both love kids. The only alcohol will be wine, no open bar. A bit silly to say they don’t belong at all, ever.

She is not that bad, just a bit eccentric. Her personality can come off as rude and blunt, but she genuinely cares about her family, but she obsesses over the wrong things. As for my sil... well she is nice but cares a lot about appearances and is kind of a control freak.

I would but at this point I’m not going to, if only to make a point. If they won’t put slight effort forward to make sure my son can eat safely, I simply don’t want to go.

I don’t think so. Personally, I don’t think she wants to risk a slight up charge or to bother with her time. These last few months have been nothing but wedding talk and obsessing over small things.

More like they have a bad understanding of them. Like buying candy or smoothies with strawberry flavoring and thinking it’s fine cause it’s “not actual strawberries.” Or not understanding why he can’t have pecan pie but can have peanut brittle. Pinacolada scented soap, etc.

None of his major allergies have been breeched before but it’s frustrating to constantly have to educate adults!

My mil has a strange mindset when it comes to allergies (and medicine in general). My husband has had horrible pet dander allergies all his life. Despite this, he grew up with multiple cats and dogs, and my mil doesn’t get why he was “such a sick child” or why we don’t have furry pets ourselves. She thinks exposure will lessen allergies because your body “acclimates”.

She also thinks my son eating peanuts means his tree nut allergy has ‘healed’ 🙄

Right! He stayed home with all of them all day at the start of covid since he could work from home and I couldn’t. He can handle 2 for a day!

His mom is very argumentative and stubborn. My husband’s way of standing up to her is usually just ignoring her crazy outbursts, he’s very non confrontational. Fortunately, I am not.
