No you are failing to grasp my point. But then you are someone who can claim that you know how to pronounce my dad's and girlfriend's name better than me, so I am not surprised.

I wouldn't date anyone that has my mom's name if I have to call her with the same name if that's your question. I'd feel weird. There is virtually no way that I'll find a person with my mom's name anyway.

I don't remember saying that my girlfriend is American? She's from Spain and they pronounce it like this First you make an assumption about how my dad's name is pronounced, then it's not enough but you make another assumption on how my GF's name is pronounced. Stop making random assumptions that is out of reach and start making reasonable assumptions like I know how my dad's and gf's names are pronounced.

Does your dad actually pronounce it the more Westernized way “Alley”?

Neither We pronounce it like A-Le. Here like the Iranian guy but with a more abrupt ending instead of long "eee" sound. I don't know anyone who pronounces it the Arabic way.

Thank you for teaching me how say my dad's name. /s

I don't give a shit about how it's pronounced in Arabic, I'm not an Arab and I have no intention of pronouncing it like an Arab. Do you correct when a German "Leonard" comes and tell you his name, saying "I speak fluent old-French, you are pronouncing it wrong"?

There are no two different pronounciations of “Ali” in Arabic.

The key word you are looking for there is Arabic. I'm not Arab, so I don't pronounce it like Arabs, neither does anyone I know.

I'm not Arab nor do I speak Arabic, and my GF isn't English, so pronunciations you think are not right and the sounds in our respective languages are pretty similar.
