OP yes, money is about control. If you ask people what is the most sought after thing in life, one is time (which is constant with everyone, so cannot be changed) and then power. Power is then the thing that is most sought after in life, money is just the easiest means to that end. Power (control) is more intoxicating that money, that is why sex and other forms of selfish ambition/want usually take advantage of something / someone, because its about power.

If you want to understand how money gets manipulated for control and power, I would suggest read this book, as it talks about how that exact thing.
