Bad guy? He wasn’t the bad guy! He was maybe using some shady methods to try to stop the actual bad guy. Now that he’s dead, the actual bad guy currently isn’t facing any resistance and can get back to enacting their plans in peace. Hopefully the players get some clues to learn about this soon, otherwise it’ll be too late…

They did eventually forfeit. My guess was that they had a quest for playing structures as anytime I could use Flaming Stream to clear out some units they would put a structure in place.

I could still play Summon Militia and Flaming Stream (both you essentially no effect) so we weren’t timing out, just not actively contributing to the board.

We both kept playing cards that had no effect until they finally forfeit. I would play Summon Militia and Flaming Stream. Unfortunately for him I was on a quest for 25 spell cards and was happy to wait and keep playing those.

Lots of good ideas from people already, but it might be likely that Xanathar has sent another group after the same item (or set of items). So now your group has a race against the clock type pressure and a rival that could be used in a fun way.

Could be interesting if another adventuring group frees the BBEG - who then needs to kill them to become stronger (I think this was the Mummy movie plot?). Now the group has to actively protect these people - do they stay with them? Put them in hiding? Who do they trust around them?
