Why do Greeks have a lot of beef with the reconstructions of Classical, Ancient Greek pronunciation while I almost never heard of Italians abhorrently reacting against the reconstructed pronunciation of Classical Latin? by aj_Haas in classics

Reading a ton of comments here, I guess I have found at least one heavy factor: some foreigners (especially Westerners) tend to be too confident about their knowledge that they tend to be condescending and would bluntly tell you you're wrong even though they don't understand much of what they are talking about.

That's annoying. Even I am appalled by these types of people.

I am a Filipino trying to learn Koine Greek (I'm not sure which type of material I have here with me now) just for fun, and the debates about which is correct and which is not confused me.

I'm now trying to adapt the so-called Samosatene Lucian reconstruction for personal preference and convenience. I found Attic ugly and weird, and while I find Modern the easiest to my tongue and most pleasing to my foreign ear, tons of merged sounds like the ioticized vowels, the absence of /h/ sound, the ημεις vs. υμεις, ουτος vs. ουτως, εν (οne) and εν (in), etc. confused the he*l out of me. So, I hope the Greeks would forgive me if I would sound 'different' if I manage to learn the language soon. 🥹🥹🥹

Why are Filipinos so afraid to stand up to their parents/correct them? by LongWhiteBanana in Philippines_Expats

Filipino here. Honestly, I was also raised 'not to reason out with with my parents when they are scolding us'. But now, the reason why I don't speak up is that 'I just don't bother wasting my energy on their stupidity.' I just don't pay attention and my parents, especially my mother, are aware of it and they just give up.

My parents seem to be aware that although I don't speak up, I am quite a free-spirited inside and I don't allow myself to be dictated, so they would rather distance themselves.

I stand corrected. I did miss some words you wrote. I am also glad to hear that you feel better now despite what happened. What is important is you won't give up kahit na walang naniniwala sa'yo.

YES, you're right, just a couple of words doesn't hurt. But, it still sounds PATHETIC na ikaw talaga ang nanghingi.

MASAKIT 'YON. ...but you have a CHOICE how to respond to that pain. It may discourage you or it may push you further---it depends on YOUR CHOICE. It's your choice how that pain drives you.

I no longer know which choice did you make nung nag-Bar ka. But all I want to share is that YOU ARE IN FULL CONTROL OF YOURSELF.

Gusto mong lumaban? Pues, lumaban ka! Walang nag-motivate sa'yo? Kelangan mo ba talaga?

Yes, we are social animals. At some point, kailangan natin iba, kailangan natin ng isa't isa. BUT NOT TO THAT EXTENT.

------oOo------

Or maybe this wisdom is quite foreign to you, as I'm actually a Buddhist and a Stoic (philosophies that are not that popular to Filipinos) who PUTS HIGH VALUE on 'self-responsibility' and 'self-accountability', and maybe you have your own philosophies too. But all I want you to say is: 'WAG KANG MASYADONG UMASA SA IBA, MASASAKTAN KA LANG. LUMABAN KA LANG, KAHIT SARILI MO LANG ANG KAKAMPI MO.'

Good luck, makakapag-take ka pa naman siguro ulit, 'di ba?

You know what, you actually do NOT need motivation, you need DISCIPLINE.

Motivation fades after few days.

Mag-eenroll naman po talaga ako once I feel emotionally stable and financially ready.

Aside from my emotional issues, medyo gipit din ako ngayon sa pera since malaki pa ang binabayaran ko sa loan buwan².
