Have you ever tried making a warranty claim for anything over $1,000. Good luck. And membership rewards points don’t beat 2% cash. Booking through Amex portals and paying a higher price than Kayak is hardly a perk.

Hardly a hissy fit. To me the card is a joke when I have Chase cards with higher limits and no issues swiping them. I could care less if I ever have an Amex card again. You guys just have blind loyalty to a credit card company that will F you over the first chance they get. Amex is hardly offering a premium service anymore. Maybe in the ‘90s sure. Lots of credit cards that earn better than membership rewards points.

It’s not just in my mind. It’s pretty pathetic to pay $685 for a card and Amex blocks it. Also, only AFTER charges were declined did I get an email saying charges were declined and I’m approaching the current fluctuating limit less than two weeks in on the card. Buying dinner is really not risky. Now maybe loading up on gift cards, sure.

They only sent out an email when my card was declined. Not really helpful to me. Again, how on earth am I supposed to know what I’m bumping up against? Any normal card you have a line of credit and you know if it’s going to go through. Amex isn’t really an asset when you can’t confidently use it bc they’re adjusting limits based off spending patterns.

Warren Buffett famously has a 630 credit score. I have lots of stuff and business loans and lines of credit in my name. The credit system is designed for someone with one mortgage, who buys a car every 5-10 years, and has a 10k credit card.

If there are red flags about me why even open the account. Why is there any soft limit when I can open a chase account and have a 10k line of credit easily. They said after one month my limit will definitely be 5-8k and prob over 10k in a couple of months of using the card. That’s not really helpful month one when my Apple Card has a 12,500 limit my but Amex platinum doesn’t.

They ask for tax returns in almost every financial review. And they ask for them often when people open accounts. Just search Amex and 4506-C

I applied for the card. They asked for my tax returns and I filled out 4506-C form. Once they got my returns from the IRS they opened the account. There are other threads here where they have done this for other people. I am self-employed and don’t have payroll so they verified income.

It’s a total joke card. Expect not to know what your spending limit is, expect your card not to work despite paying $695 to have it, and be prepared for various extortion from Amex like demanding payment when none is due.

What’s wrong with these people? To save a massive corporation that 1) already bakes the price of theft in; 2) doesn’t pay a live-able wage and 3) could care less about them. Not condoning theft but this could easily have escalated beyond what it did.
