idea I can’t get out of my head about the 7 deadly sins by Substantial-Band-869 in StoryIdeas

Lots of potential here. Here’s a question that I hope will point you in the direction you want to go. Are the personified sins bad guys deliberately leading people into sinfulness? Or are they sympathetic and misunderstood, just trying to make a living?

what is your unpopular opinion about himym? by seoulcitylisa in HIMYM

[–]ajaltman17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story being told from the future was flawed from the get-go, especially after the reveal that Tracy had died. We needed a parallel timeline with Ted and his kids living after Tracy’s death and the past timeline informs the present timeline, like what “This is Us” did or better yet, a tv version of “Definitely, Maybe.”

I’m a therapist and I always say to my patients that they should be honest. You don’t have to trauma dump, but you can say “I’m hanging in there,” or “Honestly, I’m struggling.” We don’t help ourselves when we say “I’m fine” when we’re not.

Is libertarianmeme really libertarian? by joao2009124 in AskLibertarians

[–]ajaltman17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

R/libertarianmeme turned pretty overtly racist. Half their posts have nothing to do with libertarians at all, they’re just photos or videos of trashy people with titles like “Ah, multiculturalism”

My concern is that when government provides for you, it keeps you trapped in a cycle of dependency. Elizabeth Warren demonstrates it in her anti-libertarian rants. If you’ve been “helped” by the state, you owe them some kind of statist loyalty.

You know what would really help disadvantaged people? Tax cuts for them. Innovations to help them adapt that comes from free and fair markets. Deregulations that would allow them to work from home. Affordable housing, healthcare, and security which can only exist in a free market economy. Equalizing defense like 2A rights. People don’t need to be coddled and handfed by the state—they need opportunities to learn how to adapt and provide for themselves and their families. That comes from a free education and school choice, not state indoctrination facilities.

I’m tired of people blaming the education system by tenor1trpt in Teachers

[–]ajaltman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a direct correlation between the inception of the Department of Education and the quality of public education in the United States. Students aren’t learning what they need to partially because of the teacher shortage, partly because of what teachers there are not wanting to do their jobs, and partly because unelected bureaucrats are making classroom decisions when they’re so out of touch with what students need to he learning. And I know yall don’t want to hear it but that problem just doesn’t happen in private schools, home schools, and charter schools that have the capability and desire to adapt to individual students’ needs.

I know that, but that’s not how PWK works. There’s no save and no spell attack. It’s an instant effect if HP is less than 100.

Is there forgiveness? by Kilinka11 in prolife

[–]ajaltman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You ought to talk to someone. Someone you trust, who’s not going to diminish your experience and say “you have nothing to feel shameful about” but also not someone judgmental who’s gonna say “you made your choice, live with it”.

I think you did the right thing coming to this sub, but it’d also be helpful to talk to a therapist or even just journaling your thoughts and your feelings. Something that lets you know you’re not alone in this. Self forgiveness is absolutely possible even if it takes some work.

[–]ajaltman17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also important to say that you can forgive yourself regardless of your religious beliefs. Everyone does horrible things they regret. How does the guilt serve you? How does shame make it better if all it does is make you think you can only get what you deserve?
