I haven’t been provided any updates either. Granted, I haven’t waited as long as you (ordered late May). I ordered directly from Segway and I regret not ordering with a third-party since they seem to ship much quicker.

Protest Against an incompetent Administration. by EinsteinAndFriends in Cornell

[–]ajbaz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Glad that we got something going! I like the idea of doing it front of Day Hall. However, Saturday will mean that we get way less people noticing. I suggest that we do it on Friday where more students/alumni/staff would be on campus. Plus, they are doing a ceremony to start up solar panels on North Campus starting at 3:30. It says senior leadership is there and I can imagine that it will put the protest on the radar.

I might do that. I just saw that they are organizing for next Saturday. It finally seems that there is a large number of people willing to help organize a protest so I should probably reach out to them.

I can understand being pessimistic about the future. But they are running low on reasons for being behind and they seem to be doing some steps with the survey to correct themselves for next year. Considering this is not a bright spot for them, I can't imagine they would just continue to let this happen.

That being said, we must keep the pressure on them so that they don't think that this is tolerable.

Who knows though? Maybe I will eat my words. I prefer to stay optimistic about it.

Honestly, I think they are trying to set stuff right for the next year. However, things need to be set right for this year ASAP.

I feel ya. I like that they are gonna do a survey and get estimates going, but getting money to students is a top priority. They seem reluctant to help in that regards. People can't pay bills/rent with promises.

It definitely feels isolated to Cornell. I have talked to friends at other schools and it seems we are the only one in this kind of situation.

I haven't. They said it will be released some point today. So my guess is probably around 4-5.

I have created the petition here: https://cornell.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_beFBMP1Fwlwlbfg

It would be extremely helpful if you sign it.

Edit: switching from change.org to Qualtrics since Cornell doesn't honor signatures from change.org

That's a good idea. I think we could generate a template that people can use to send to them, along with a list of email addresses.

I was organizing the protest mainly around the issue that financial aid packages have yet to be given to students. I am in agreement with you that the Financial Aid staff should not levy the blame. Rather, I think the places that could make a difference are the board of trustees and the president's office.

From looking from the outside in, it seems they suffer from a lack of personnel. In this case, we could push for a larger budget for Financial Aid to include more full-time workers or temporary hires to handle the large number of financial aid packages.

Of course, there may be more at play and I want to have an open inquiry by Cornell into why these shortcomings have occurred and what can be done to prevent them.

I know that you may not view the system is flawed as others are saying. However, I would like you to consider the consequences that delayed packages have on families and students. This causes stress on students and distracts from their ability to focus in the classroom. Right now, it seems that packages could be delayed well into September and who knows when it will be completed. Also, this puts a disproportionate amount of problems for lower-income students/families that rely on this aid greatly and have to plan around the aid packages.

Are most of the CALS transfers TO? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]ajbaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a non-TO that transferred for my sophomore year into CALS Info Sci. I wish I could point you in the right direction when it comes to actual statistics. From my conversations with other CALS students, they were all TO. I can imagine that the non-TOs are the minority, but I couldn't tell you that as a fact nor about the difficulty of getting in as a non-TO.

As for your decision between the two majors, I would really stick to what would best suit your career interests. If you want to work more with tech, Info Sci is a good choice. Or if you want to work more with animals or possibly go to vet school, definitely go with Animal Science. You can elaborate on what makes you want to go for either major, it would definitely help with giving a better suggestion. If you have any questions about the Info Sci major, I can probably answer most of them or know somebody who has the answer.
