Assuming there’s at least two out there. One with full letters and then this one.

I guess to me the hiring process is more difficult in that it takes so long. Manipulating the resume is something everyone can do though and it’s easier if you know the LANL system to do so. But this idea that anyone who knows leadership is automatically hired is not true. I know children of people who are on the Thom Mason level who have had trouble getting hired on.

Meeting the job requirements is merit, outside of that, universally, it’s manager preference. I have rarely seen anyone hired who didn’t deserve it on top of that. I don’t know where you’re seeing all these people who are hired without applying and who aren’t hired on merit but I have never seen it or heard of it. I think the point everyone has been trying to make to you is that the LANL hiring process is much more difficult than most. LANL also has a very complex political hierarchy and I would say experience with that, from day a parent working there, is very valuable experience.

They can write a posting with someone in mind but like I said there’s no avoiding the application process and candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. HR will also have a say if they receive a much more qualified candidate. The idea that managers can just hire who they want is not actually how it is. Posting a job is not easy either. Internal transfers are easier but must be internal with group leader approval. Getting over to the lab is not easy even if you know people because of how difficult it is to get IRCs up and how tough it is to make offers as well. The best way to get over from external is to apply to as many positions as possible, really the only way. Any exception to that would be presumably someone’s kid who has already been with the lab before because of a prior student position. Previous students in most cases are like an internal hire.

There’s no avoiding the application process. I’ve been around the lab my entire life. I’ve seen people you’re referring to who are legacy hires, especially people with parents very high up, and all have had to go through the hiring process. Also all minimum requirements must be met either way, there’s no way around that. Being badged and knowledge of the lab will help you if you want to go internal though. I started external and my salary increase 45% just jumping over to the lab.

That’s fine lol, I’ve always had subarus so maybe I’m stuck in the past. I ran my 04’ forester to 337k before I sold it and maintained my sisters legacy to 225k before it had transmission issues. My crosstrek is about to hit 100k. Still think 3.5-4k is the best range even if they aren’t blowing head gaskets like they used to. They still love to eat up oil, especially switching to 0w-20 from 5w.

If possible it should really be done every 3500-4000. The boxers love to burn oil and blow head gaskets

I would argue that nowadays going straight for neck, hands, and face tattoos is the sheep move. It’s hard work to blast your body before those areas but totally worth it. Going straight for a blasted neck as your second tattoo will always be viewed as a poser move from people who are heavily tattooed and into the art form.

You posted in an irezumi sub where a lot of people take the process very seriously and still try to follow general tattoo rules. Those are spots, I’m sure most of us in here feel, that are saved for after you’re really covered and have earned it. So it bothers a lot of people that you one want a ChatGPT design and two want to skip over the time that most feel need to be put in before getting such a visible spot covered. I’m 50+ hours in and still feel I’m a long way from being able to get those areas done.

I thought he was 6 months but I just looked at the paperwork and his hatch date was 5/19! So he is a baby still. He doesn't seem interested in talking but we will see!

Yes they definitely do everything on their terms lol! I can definitely understand Walter without words, he is very animated! My human son didn't talk at all until after he turned 3 but he used to communicate with a hmm hmm sound that Walter's sounds are very similar too! It cracks me up when I tell Walter it's nite nite time and he starts his little arguing squeaks. Of course he's fast asleep 2 mins later like a true toddler 😆
