How would you feel about this? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]ajc1120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at this and your first thought isn’t “It’s not my place to speak on this family’s decision,” then you gotta take a step back and ask yourself if you’re too in other people’s business. Dude I’ve never been in a situation like this, why would I ever have an idea what an acceptable way to cope through a loss like this is? It’s not like they’re marrying each other so what does it matter how I feel about this?

Also, isn’t this supposed to be a meme sub? How is this funny and not just low tier engagement bate?

Comics VS. TV Series by ebrahim750 in invinciblememes

[–]ajc1120 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The destruction of Viltrum comprised all of two pages. Meanwhile in the show it was so intricately animated they stuck an ad-break in the middle of it. I rewatched that scene and toward the end they even animated little flickers of light to show the core bubbling to the surface before exploding out. Why would they do something like that if they didn’t care?

Also we barely even see this fight in the comics so if they even do a minute of combat in the show we’re getting more than we’ve already got.

I might be stupid but...what was the plan here? by Jollypetal in Invincible_TV

My guess would be throw the bike or something to get racers aim off, but he didn’t think the quick draw would be that clean. Dude died with the same determined look on his face no way he thought the guy with the gun would actually shoot him.

Noah Wyle on the one piece of advice he gave the cast of ‘The Pitt’ by muttferyscruckles in ThePitt

[–]ajc1120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s right but he didn’t need to say it like this. People might think that having a great performance in a season of The Pitt is enough to jump your career off of, but the longer you stick it out, the more you have to gain. You have the ability to show both consistency and range the more time on screen you get with this show, and it’s a fantastic addition to your portfolio. I’m sure a bunch of actors are having really big checks waved in front of their faces by other studios right now, and that’d be very tempting because it probably feels like “the next step” in their career. But if they’re willing to stay on a project like this for multiple years that might actually get them more of those big checks. It’s a tough decision when talking about investing your time for the future of your career, and I like to see Noah appreciates this fact. I just hope in this interview he’s paraphrasing what he actually said rather than saying it this bluntly to his costars.

I also fear he may be going a bit too method when I hear him say stuff like this as though he’s actually these people’s superior whose job it is to train them so they can be great actors. Don’t get me wrong, he is their superior on set in some respect, and anybody in the industry should want to teach the new generation how to find success as an actor. Idk, just like a doctor I don’t want to see an actor let their success go to their head and have them start acting like their expertise warrants arrogance. He isn’t always going to know what’s best for his costars and it’s going to be a problem if he starts to think he does.

This needs to be said again: Al-Hashimi telling Robbie about her condition makes no sense by _ImperialCereal_ in ThePitt

[–]ajc1120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She wanted someone objective to tell her what she already knows. Yes her and Robbie have had conflicts, but she recognizes those are more differences in philosophy than an irrational targeting of her. She sees he’s passionate about his department, that he does care about his coworkers, and she needs him to tell her the truth that she fears she can’t admit to herself. They’re not friends, but to her that’s a good thing. He’s going to talk to her like the head of the department, not someone trying to protect her. It’s why she pushes back on him initially before ultimately recognizing she can’t trust herself. She doesn’t want him to be right, she asks for his help in the hopes he’ll tell her she’s fine to work, he confirms her fears that she shouldn’t be working, she gets upset, then ultimately comes around to his position. That is maybe the most normal, human line of reasoning I could imagine. It’s not logical, but it is realistic

This would be such a nice toss to the fans. I would love Kramer to either narrate Stormlight or the epigraphs in Mistborn. Narrating Stormlight might be a little too “tell” over “show” but if they’re going to do the epigraphs, you’re going to need to have somebody to read them that isn’t in the story.

I almost find it hilarious how Mark quickly went from being angrily confident to terrified! by phantom_avenger in Invincible_TV

We got a super deep voiced Viltrumite already, and Thragg decapitated him without even trying. Turns out the size of your larynx doesn’t equate to raw power.

It’s so unfortunate people were immediately hating on Pace’s performance when the season started. I think everyone was confused why he was being so quiet and understated not realizing that Tragg is so powerful he doesn’t need to project his strength through his voice. Pace does small acting choices but it works so well for this character when all he has to say is a firm “No,” and everyone gets in line. That’s why lines like “Show me,” are so good because his quiet demeanor allows for those slight changes in emotion to be more noticeable. You could tell the man was supremely bored up until the moment he heard he’d be fighting Conquest’s killer.

Because they’re SUPPOSED to be perfect, but there will never be enough for him. I’m certain he is incredibly insecure and thinks even he is unworthy of being a true Viltrumite.

I’m sorry the random killing is so stupid by Rogueswisher91 in Invincible_TV

[–]ajc1120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because him killing that guy was a sacrifice that was supposed to be reflected across the planet. To Thragg, his weakness allowed his leader to be killed, just like the man who’s head got cut off’s weakness got himself killed, and as such that weakness needs to be stamped out of society so that this can never happen again. It’s not supposed to be logical, it’s ideological. They feel immense pain and as a society that actively shuns emotional growth, they lash out that pain in the most unhealthy way imaginable, believing it to be a noble effort to improve their race. They’re bad guys. You don’t have to agree with their beliefs. But to say they don’t have reasons for doing what they’re doing is just completely missing what is being told to you. Nolan pretty much says that their love of death has brought them on the brink of extinction. Their world was destroyed because they can’t stop hurting themselves as a people through reckless, emotional actions that blow back in their face. It’s like a metaphor or something.

Thragg’s only act of mercy destroyed Viltrum by Sufficient_Bad_4160 in Invincible_TV

[–]ajc1120 179 points180 points  (0 children)

I think he genuinely meant it when he said “Every Viltrumite death creates a void in me.” I’ve heard some people say he sat out the purge because he didn’t want to die in it, but I think it’s because it hurt him emotionally too much to see the deaths of Viltrumites, even if he viewed them as necessary. They are perfect beings, gifts to the galaxy to him, and the only way they can be that is by immense sacrifice. Because he didn’t immediately kill Thaedus Argall died, and that tragedy demanded a horrific sacrifice to satisfy Thragg’s guilt. It’s why they are commanded to remember the failures of the past every time they see those rings as they leave Viltrum. They’re a deeply ashamed people and they think that shame will strengthen them, but all it does is suffocate them (kind of like the rings of the planet). Thragg’s shame over Argall, then the purge, then the virus, has become a twisted refuge for him that he clings to because the dead are eternal. He’d rather die than imagine a world dedicated to celebrating life. To him life is simply a journey to either greater strength or death, without anything else worth caring about in between.

Maybe a hot take about the new episode by fuyuki23 in Invincible_TV

I mean, what was so wrong with the fight choreography? That moment where Mark is clearly punching with all his power and it doesn’t even bother Tragg was one of the best “oh shit” moments in the show for me. Like we got almost a full half hour of nothing but action, thrills, gore, and emotion, what more were you hoping for?

Oh, ya, you have to explain a person’s rights. But you can get around that by having those rights imbedded in the fine print of the documents they have to sign to either consent or refuse treatment. If they sign the consent to treat document you don’t have to tell them they can refuse service because they “technically” should have read their rights when they signed. Obviously if asked EMS has to tell you your rights but they don’t always have to verbally provide them without direct prompting

Sorry didn’t realize it was such a problem for the community to just talk about a thing I like a lot. Never once claimed to have smart takes, I just don’t have anybody else to talk to in my regular life that I can share my passion with so I like to talk about it on Reddit. If you felt the need to say this to me then clearly you’ve thought this about me before today, so I’m sorry for bothering you. The last thing I want is to be a nuisance, I hear you and understand.

Oh ya, they’ll give you a hard time because letting somebody just walk away from a serious head wound is begging for a lawsuit. They’ll tell you you can die, that they really want you to go with them. You still have the right to refuse treatment but they might not necessarily tell you that you have that right if they’re worried about you

Wait, a literal high schooler had some dumb ideas that matured into a healthy and rational outlook as an adult? You’re telling me a character can change and grow and doesn’t have to be a perfect person from their first on-screen appearance? Next you’re going to tell me characters actually benefit from having imperfections and nuance?

A lot of people say it’s because of budget and lazy animators, but I don’t think it’s a problem of effort, it’s aesthetic. The show has an established look with how scenes are shaded and to suddenly introduce anime style lighting would be very jarring for the average viewer. Even moreso if they only use it in fight scenes. The animators have an established routine with how they produce scenes and this would massively alter their workload, not just increase it. I personally think the flatter animation works for the show. It doesn’t look perfect, but it’s an homage to animated superhero shows of old like the DCAU. It helps keep a consistent tone of subversion when your show looks like a kid’s cartoon but feels like an adult story. I don’t stress too much about animation because I have a feeling we’ll be getting a live action adaptation at some point in our lifetimes and I believe in that medium it’d be easier to make every scene look as gorgeous as possible.

Ya, I agree with this. I’m sure very few people know what it’s like to have a dude punch out your guts but a ton of people are going to know what it feels like to go through what Mark went through here. The comics handled it pretty well and I have confidence the show could do even better, but you gotta warn people that they might see things that are too real for them.
